I just heard about "E6", a variation on D&D where characters stop at 6th level. After that point, characters use XP to buy additional feats. It's described fully in http://esix.pbwiki.com/f/E6v041.pdf and on http://esix.pbwiki.com/ .
Anyone else have any experience, or informed opinions based on their own D&D experience?

It's such a great concept, I'm already using it. Well, my own version. I'd hate to let the last five spell levels go to waste, so I'm not capping the characters: I'm capping their enemies. So my campaign uses fewer and fewer high-powered enemies, which slows PC progression and makes higher levels both harder to obtain and more significant (since finding challenges means going to greater lengths).

Very interesting approach. I've liked the 3-10 levels the best, at one point doubling the experience required to advance just so i could savor the character before the mechanics got to complicated. Serious potential here.
