NWNII was made by a different company who chose to focus on different things as value centers for the game. Some of the things that made NWN great and easy to work with were not continued in similar form in NWNII.

I think most of the 'problems' with NWNII center around the fact that the company who made it was thinking "we are making a game" instead of "we are making a tool set and then designing a sample game with it" and you can feel the difference in philosophy.

    Well put.

Personally, I'd be perfectly happy if they put all their time into the engine and toolset, and didn't even ship it with a story module. Between user modules and persistent worlds, I never even beat NWN1's main quest module.

Well, I did beat the main quest, but only because I didn't have access to Internet most times. I played in the barracks, and the way internet was setup was screwy. Plus, they charged a ridiculous fee to have a barracks room hooked up with internet. But yeah, I did spend a lot of time creating my own modules.
