Since we've been in recession for a year, How does that affected your spending in RPG?

My spending on RPG was reduced mostly when my first daughter was born. It is been the same for the last 4 years (Now is part of the Family Budget), around $150 USD a year.

Also RPG competes for funding with the Board Games (e.g. Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan, etc.) and Movies.

My spending is down this year in comparison to the previous two, but mostly due to not being interested by as many things. But it's still in the $80-100/month range.

But I don't smoke, hardly ever drink, find restaurant food too salty to be palatable, my graphics card is now too old to run recent software releases, and haven't seen an ad for a movie that I wanted to see on the big screen in about two years.

I would say about $20 to $25. More so for supplies (pencils, pens, graph paper, etc.) than actual RPGs.

This was a big year for me. I decided to look into GURPS and a couple Changeling books came out. I can normally go a couple years without buying anything but this year I passed the $100 mark.

Spending has been way down for me, moreso because I've only gotten back into gaming this year after a few years away. Since I play old school first edition and have most of the material in hand, I don't really have much to purchase, but I have done some eBay surfing...

I bought most of the line of Castles & Crusades, also Aces & Eights, 1st Ed Manual of the Planes, and the two core Deadlands Hell on Earth books.

Initially bought D&D4, sent it back for printing defects.

I set down over $200 for the books I'd been dying to buy for over a year. I didn't have the cash because it was my last year in college. Now that I have a "real" job, I could plunk down a lot to support my FLGS. I also bought a couple of things online in PDF form. I give myself $200 a week for eating out and entertainment.

I spent less than $100.00 on DnD, more than $100.00 on WFRP, and about $100.00 on Traveller.

I just spent $200 on 17 German language Shadowrun books. I've purchased a good $200 in the 16mm Chessex 6 siders for my Shadowrun games (I have a bit over 400 now). I bought all the releases this year of Shadowrun both in PDF and in dead tree and purchased the 5th printing of the Shadowrun core rules by Catalyst Games.

I also purchased a couple hundred in old Paranoia modules. I bought all the All Flesh Must Be Eaten books this year including a couple of PDFs. I've picked up a couple of Call of Cthulhu books and my wife bought me the Malleus Monstrorum for my birthday (along with several Zombie books).

I've also spent $1500 or so on my recent computer gaming rig. My wife has a new Dell laptop since hers crapped out. I've also purchased a good $250 in computer games for the new rig.

I went to Alaska this year on the motorcycle and spent a good $1500 on a flat tire (towing, new tire, new tire and chain two days later, motel rooms for 5 days).

The kids are gone so we don't have that as a bill any more (not to say they won't move in if it gets bad of course). The only "bill" we have is the house. All the motorcycles and the car is paid off and we pay off the credit card each month.

I have a pretty recession proof job (Sr Unix Admin for a company that supports the 911 Emergency Infrastructure) unless I really screw something up.

We don't celebrate the holidays other than minimally. A personality gift sort of thing so we don't spent a craptastic load of money during the holidays.

Do minis count? I dropped a small fortune there, not so much on the game books as my son has been buying his own books. And the online games, my wife takes care of that. So, I guess all the money I spent has been on minis and terrain stuff. Maybe $300 to $400. Now, gaming conventions, those don't count either, right? lol

I didn't count gas or snacks. Heck, just that would kick me over the $1,000 mark as I ride to Boulder every other Sunday, Denver every other Wednesday, and over to Thorton (short but still) on the other Wednesdays.

I also didn't count convention costs.

But I figured it'd be easiest to just count gear.

My spending has been reduced from usual, not so much due to the overall economy, more because my wife lost her job and was slow in getting a new one. This happened before most of the current economic issues.

Sure the economy has an impact on my spending, but there have been times in the past where the economy has been slow, but I've still purchased RPG items, books, figures, terrain, etc, and the opposite can be said as well, there have been times when the economy was doing great but I wasn't spending as much on RPGs.

Just depends on how much disposable income I have during the year.

With 4e out, I've spent over $100 on the PHB, Adventurer's Vault, Forgotten Realms Player's Guide and Martial Power, and I still have more I want.
