it occured to me that i've never posted in the new members area.
so, here it goes:
my name is derek, live in houston, texas now, but was raised in and around oneonta, ny. i've been playing D&D since '79 (when i was 9) and played top secret, gamma world, traveller and twilight:2000 in my formative years. i tried MERP when it first came out, but eventually just converted all of the adventures and settings into D&D for my homebrew campaign.
moved to texas during my junior year of high school, and played D&D exclusively until shadowrun came out (i guess that was 89? i was at UT by then, so i guess so...). split time between the two DMed D&D and played my street samuria "gin-su" in shadowrun.
moved to dallas for a couple years and played in a forgotten realms game using heavily houseruled 1st ed D&D.
since moving back to houston, i've played only sporadically, lost all of my gaming stuff (about 6 boxes worth, mostly 1st ed, judges guild, thieve's guild, chaosium and shadowrun stuff)
im not in a game now, just trying to recreate my homebrew game from memory and keeping an eye on the boards.
i look forward to posting as topics catch my eye and getting to know y'all!

I was 13 in 79 and the late spring of 78 was when the bug bit me...an article in of all things "Parade" in the sunday paper turned my love of fantasy in general and Tolkien in particular towards a little known game most often played by "college students"

Supporters tend to argue with me that roleplaying is separate from the system and can be strongly supported in any game. I always encourage them to write a history for their iron token in monopoly and discuss the motivations for passing go. - Engar
