This is a good article for anyone who would like a little more information about what happens in the intermediating years after the Spellplague ensues to the starting year of the new campaign setting. With all the things they are changing and the new philosophy on the Realms, it really is like a whole new campaign world. It's like they wanted to create a new setting, but decided instead to piggyback on the long standing success of the Realms...

The 4th Edition Realms are shifting away from a "Renaissance" feel to a more contemporary higher fantasy environment. If you can imagine playing D&D in a world that looks like the cover of a Yes album, you're getting close. Yeah, I needed to Google it, too.

That doesn't exactly put me in my happy place about the changes to Forgotten Realms.
