I think the first and second Resident Evil movies have elements of Sci-Fi, Horror, and Dark Future. My question to you guys is which one of these settings is the most dominate?

hmmm...this one is not so cut-and-dry. Although the first movie had scientific elements, which were the creation of the monsters, I would say that it is primarily a horror movie. I would also that the second movie is still a horror movie as well, even though it had some elements of dark future in the fact that corporations are all powerful and civilization is breaking down.

I haven't seen the third movie, but from the trailers it looks like this one might fit into the dark future setting.

I voted for horror but it was a very tough choice for me. I left the third one out because it is hands down a Post Apoc/Dark Future setting.

Yes, horror would be my vote as well. While there are elements of the others genres, horror is the strongest. I just watched the third one last weekend. I liked it, definitely dark future.

I voted Dark Future. I've only seen one of them and it seemed more action-adventure with zombies, and there's the whole evil corporate conspiracy bits. In truth, while watching, I was devoting much of my attention to identifying Toronto landmarks.

The Umbrella corporation practically runs the entire planet. That alone makes the universe Dark Future. However, the movies themselves seemed to center around horrific events caused by the corporation, more than society. Not to mention most Dark Future's have heavily effected societies. From what I could tell society was the world as we know it now with Umbrella calling the shots secretly, much like the Illuminati.

the illuminated order of bavaria. speaking of only slightly tangential things, did you know that steve jackson's office was raided and all his computers and disks were taken by a bunch of black suits with guns, the secret service, no less... when he was working of the first draft of gurps:cyberpunk? and here's sjgames list of top ten media errors about the fiasco.... =D

for more useful information about related issues, go to www.sjgames.com and do a search for "office raid". the top ten results are very informative.
