Can you recomend any good games for the PS1 or 2? I like RTS and RPG games. I found Bards Tale for $5, but have yet to try it. Any ideas for some good ones for these platforms?

    thanks

This is a forum for the discussion of pen and paper role-playing games set in a fantasy genre.

To pare down the list above, for the PS1 I'd recommend Chrono Cross, Grandia, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy Tactics (if you can find it) and which ever Final Fantasy compilation has Final Fantasy VI. For PS2 I'd suggest Kingdom Hearts, then Kingdom Hearts 2. Those are the ones that made me go "I can't believe how good this game is."

Isn't Kingdom Hearts the one which features Donald duck and other Disney characters ? I don't mean to dismiss the game just for that, but it really seems cheesy How do one make a good "rpg" (at least what they call rpg on consoles) with such a cast ?

Yes Kingdom Hearts is a merging of the Disney character line and a really great RPG. Don't judge a book by its cover. It is one of the greatest games every created. From the large listing above I highly recommend you don't pass up the following games because they really defined the RPG genre for me. Truly the best the system had to offer.

    PlayStation 1
    Chrono Cross
    Final Fantasy Anthologies
    Grandia
    Thousand Arms
    Valkyrie Profile
    Vandal Hearts
    Wild Arms
    XenoGers

    PlayStation 2
    Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
    Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II
    Final Fantasy X
    Final Fantasy X-2
    Kingdom Hearts
    Kingdom Hearts 2
    Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
    Xenosaga Episode I
    Xenosaga Episode 2
    Xenosaga Episode 3

It did and does sound cheesy and childish to an extent. I have yet to play it, but have heard very good things about it. I think it will be one of my next purchases from the used game shop. Why pay $60 for a game when you can wait awhile and get it for $10?

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen was my favorite game for the SNES when I was a kid.

By the way, these days it's easy to get an emulator for the computer and it's totally legal if you own the games. The nice thing about that is you can save the state of the entire machine to your hard-drive, so you don't have to save at "save-points" or whatever.
