    The emissary of the khaganate, a young pictish warrior by the name of Hamius, entered the council antechamber. he knew he was not welcome, but he did not care. his lord was the true king of pictia, and these men were usurpers. any attempt at placating them was but a humble and most polite offering. if they refused, furious vengeance would no doubt follow.

    The other with him was a nobleman of westeria. not a head of a house, by his look, but a son, perhaps.
    'il thez naz ka dut.' he extended a hand. with the blues and golds of the bildenbergs, he knew the family by reputation, and by name. an industrious lot.

    He didn't understand him, but he understood the hand well enough. Hamius extended his.

    They then started fiddling with sheets of parchment, and trying to figure eachother out.

    overwhelmingly, the air smelled of time growing short, and desperation on all sides.

    The Best Defense...

    Ensuring that Reinerath and Dalak Tai beyond were safe was foremost in the Graf's mind as he commanded the establishment of supply lines to feed and arm his knights across the border in the hinterlands of the Khaganate. Ritter Forst was dispatched to do his best to ensure the success of the task, with acknowledgement from his Graf that their resources were already stretched and he might find it to be a significant challenge.

    Red Tape

    Constable Gryf grimaces as he watches the Westerian and Khaganate delegations depart, the Council having utterly neglected them. "F---ing nobles!" he growls, spitting on the ground. "Least there's one who I know will do something." He peers at the crisp note in his hand, looking over the cypher - honest to the gods, learning how to read was the best decision he'd ever made. He makes a furled smile as he starts formulating a plan for his Graf's objective, to deal with this so-called "Black Lotus"...

"Fill this, then sign this, now stamp, yes, you must do it twice," he tells an assistant, passing on the traditions of the bureaucracy into which he himself had been born. "Now, there are these sealed letters... yes, you must deliver them; no, you cannot know who it is delivered to. Neither will the next man. Do not pay attention to the peasant with a milk bucket. Where were we again? Ah, yes, there is the matter of the pungent packages in the warehouse..."

    2x10 v 2x10 [tie] -- V for victory. You are able to confront a large number of well equipped drug dealers, and they fight your men tooth and nail. At the end, you've fought them to their very homes. At that point, when you men are about to torch them, they announce they are coming out. All they say is 'V for Victory.' -- their mouths burst forth with blood and foam, and they die where they stand. you're no closer to the source, but at least you've stopped these ones for now... your men are worried though.

    Intel:
    -- currently, they are fighting a war on two fronts, against the picts and Dalaktites. they are therefore attempting to hire mercenaries from the six kingdoms of the west (the council of Sevenkeeps, the city Isaac the God King founded, according to pictian history.) ((the city is so named because from six keeps is one in the center, where all are equals. Pictia is apart of that council, as are Bellaria, Trimerron, the holy college [in personal union with pictia], Gothica, and the Crimson Kingdom. that was last game ))

    from all reports, few countries have outright aligned with either side, as everyone knows what the pictish cavalry is capable of. That said, Bellarian mercenaries have appeared on both sides, and it is expected Crimson kingdom river flotillas and free companies will be involved, though it is not clear on whose side they are. it's a world away from you guys.

    The dark veil seems lifted from Ethos' eyes these days. He walks with greater vigor than he has for years. The church has produced a new man. The grafdom has also taken notice, and their craft has gained the feeling of a new renaissance. People spend less time drinking, and more time talking excitedly about what great things are to come for the Kingdom of Dalak'Tai. Eager that his countrymen should share from his renewed raison-d'etre, Ethos begins a new effort to teach the kingdom of the sheep god and all his glory.

A dozen agents murdered without a hint of their assailants. "We checked every angle, but they had the jump on us." Once they had taken our first agent, he must have given up the rest of his team. I could not believe this kind of betrayal of any of my own. They must have used unimaginable tortures."
    "Very well, then. They know we are coming, now, and we still know nothing of their resources or integration. I will not fight blind, waiting for the day they plant a dagger in our backs. What do you suggest?" Ethos paused to give Maire time to think.
    In the depth of the keep, the heat of the boilers made sweat bead on Ethos' face, but Maire remained unaffected. Her small frame disguised a whip speed and sharp mind. As a woman, she also shared the benefit of being invisible to slow-witted or arrogant men. Ethos was no such fool. She subconsciously fingered the hems of her sleeves where she kept her blades hidden. "Who knows how much information they managed to extract from our colleagues. We must change our tactics entirely if we are to gain any footing. Let us capture a common supplier, the lowest of the low. We can offer them a deal... Give us a list of his contacts or spend the rest of his life in the mines. We will work this organization from the ground up...."
