    As the Khaganate forces are routed from the field, a bright and brassy horn sounds from the distance. Solitary at first, then accompanied by others. The battle standards of Dalak Tai's army stand tall behind the men of the Khaganate, and the bloodthirsty challenge that the men under them roar towards the Khaganate soldiers retreating from one army right into the swords and spears of another sets the very earth quaking. Under the command of a proud knight of the Citadel, the army breaks into a run to crush the Picts against the anvil of Reinerath's finest.

    It's a slaughter on both sides. you outnumber them though. the horned priests, such as they are, aid you with siege weapons. 'very large tossers' they call them.

    10 vs. 8 -- no significant damage.
    The timely intervention of the khaganate fleet manages to rescue the men from the shore. people call it the miracle of the Klein-Don-river.
    of course, your men aren't those. they have the river, and are able to get across before your men are able to push the advantage.

    Despite the army's inability to crush the Khaganate, Graf von Reinsbach decides to push on anyways. Leading the army deeper into Khaganate territory and leaving his levy to lick its wounds and secure the border, he launches some probing raids to make sure there are no hidden bands of horse archers waiting to leap on him the moment he pushes on.

    (( No it doesn't? Not unless you're counting the forced roll I had to make because I was attacked, in which case I want my resources back because it wasn't clear that forced rolls were counted towards our 3/turn. This turn, I sent the national army in a flanking attempt (failed), built border forts, and then pushed the army a little further into Khaganate territory. The last action I took before that was to attempt to provide myself a bonus for this turn. I don't want to lose resources over either a miscount or an unclear rule. ))

    (( Also, if forced rolls ARE counted towards our 3/Turn, I vote we get 4/Turn, because I've been attacked pretty consistently and I don't want to be pushed down to 2 or even less a Turn if I keep getting pulled into scraps. ))

    (( OK! Clarification provided. Forced rolls do still count as actions towards the 3/Turn limit. I still hold to my second point but that's discussion for another time and probably for Facebook as opposed to cluttering up the forum. I offered my services to Jeremy in collating our rules into a proper document so they're not spread across the forum, facebook, and a variety of documents, and I'll have that done by the end of next turn, if not a bit sooner. ))

    Given all the damage, the khaganate retreats to 3 central keeps, to keep a defensive line, keeping in mind to keep the supply lines clean. it looks like a protracted siege is inevitable.

    Let me be the first to congratulate you upon your early victories over the heretical so-called "Khaganate of the Falling Star". It is the sincerest hope of the Order that they will be the first of many, and that the sight of the Royal Armies fighting side-by-side with the soldiers of Reinerath will show the world that Dalak-Tai is a strong realm, not to be trifled with or crossed.

    It is in this spirit that I am sending you what assistance I can in your efforts. While the Order is perpetually short of soldiers, we believe that we may offer some substantive help in the battles to come.

    As you may know, the Order's forces often employ gunpowder weapons in our expeditions to the south. While the vast majority of our arsenal is made up of small handheld pieces suited for use by single armsmen, we also have in our possession several larger pieces which are more suitable for knocking holes in curtain walls and stone keeps. I am sending two of these pieces to you now, alongside their ammunition and crews, escorted by a banner commanded by Knight-Captain Adelaide von Lauenburg, who hails not far from Reinerath herself. These pieces are cumbersome weapons, and must be transported carefully. However, it is hoped that they will reach your armies by the beginning of the next month, and serve some purpose in your continuing campaign.

    Contributions to the cause

    As the month draws to an end, several new units bearing the banner of Aurinsberg can be seen among the Dalak-Tai forces. Along with the usual fighters, however, they bring clerks, planners, storesmen, pursers, even a large wagon that functions as a moving tavern. They help set up the camp on the east side of the river, preparing for the inevitable offensive.
