    FRANCES JACKSON JOURNAL

Past History-Born in New Market Alabama in 1846, but he is not sure of his birthday. He was given the name Frances and had no last name until he became a soldier. His mother was a mixed race and he only vaguely remembers her. He grew up as a hunter, with slingshot and firearms, tracking all types of game and varments. He was a valuable addition to any plantation, and as a young teen in 1859 he was sold at a premium sent to a plantation in Georgia. The owners son named Joshua Eppers became attached to Francis and pulled him from the 16 hr a day work he was doing in the fields and made him a house servant with his crippled fathers permission. His keen eye and quick trigger finger filled the plantation's larder with excellent food daily. In 1862, Joshua who was 17 then, joined a cavalry group and left the home leaving instructions for France to watch and defend the plantation. Shortly after joining Joshua Eppers was reported as 'missing'.

On a trip for supplies, Frances saw a flyer inviting 'Negroes' to join up and gain their freedom. With the disabled Mr. Eppers blessings he was allowed to join and fight for the Confederates. His group was called the JACKSON BATTALION, and the 200 blacks who joined were put into specialty positions, but they were allowed to fight for the South. Frances was suddenly in need of a last name to sign his papers and instead of an 'X" as most others used, he took the last name of Jackson. Frances was found to have an above average sniping skill with a keen eye, and was often tasked with killing Yankee officers at a goodly range. He found great favor with his fellow soldiers, both black and white.
The Jackson Battalion included two companies of black soldiers, that saw combat at Petersburg under Col. Shipp, who said "My men acted with utmost promptness and goodwill...Allow me to state sir that they behaved in an extraordinary acceptable manner."

Never finding joshua, he was in Arkansas when the war ended. His Sharps rifle with over 100 Yankee kills on it, was taken from him upon his surrender. He was told he was free. He thought he had been free before. He refused repatriation and did not sign the oath to the Union, and headed South, staying alone and away from relationships. He found several small wars in Central and South America that he could participate in, making a living at killing. He figured if he was alive at the end of the wars, he would move on. A decade or so later, once the carpetbaggers returned back to the rat holes in the North, he came back to the broken South, finding odd jobs wherever he could. His longest job was being a gravedigger at the oldest black Church in Tennessee. His life changed here forever as he grew very close with a fiery Pastor who preached fiery sermons, and Frances became a member of the Church. Months later, the Pastor grew sick and died a slow painful death, and during this bedridden time he and the Pastor discussed the mysteries of life and the Bible. After his friends death, Frances left to head west.

Current Day,Tombstone Arizona the morning of March 1, 1879. (Week1)

Given use of a haystack in the stable for as long as he chose to stay, Frances wasted no time making it home. He was flush with money, and may put some stakes down here in....(what town was this again??). Frances had a few items but most had been used up and worn out as he worked jobs across the South to get here. And why Here? He shook his head to clear the sleep away, and watched a sway back horse come over and nuzzle into his small canvas sack and take out his last Johnny cake. The horse swallowed it in a gulp. Francis was going to get up and rescue his last food, but he decided not to. He washed his face and got ready for the day. In his old work shoes, he reached into the sole, pulled it up and began pulling out greenbacks. He pulled out $150 stuck it into his patched work pants. He pushed open the stable doors and was beset by bright sunlight and covered his eyes. "Maybe I should get a hat" he thought. A stout man rode past him at a slow gait. The horse was excellent and the man had on fine clothes. He had long reddish hair. He looked down his nose at Francis and sneered, and then flicked the butt of a lit cigar at him and it bounced off Frances' knee onto the ground, leaving a streak of ash on his leg. "Yep...feels like home!" said Frances. He walked out to Allen Street to find a general store. Then maybe a gun store...and then maybe...(he had a list of things to buy and do mulling around in his head)

Note: I will reconstruct your action commands to show how it suppose to look for future reference. Use exactly the commands that are available in the player’s guidebook only. There is no “Visit” command for the type of buildings you used in the action spreadsheet. You still have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday left to provide action commands with. Please add them and I will process the spreadsheet for you. Thanks!

Yes for the inhabitant houses one can use "Visit" as a command but only for those buildings for they are just to visit a historical person of the time. The main thing to remember is to only use the exact "Action Commands" that are available for each individual building in the player's guidebook and you will most likely not make any invalid commands on the spreadsheets.

Don't worry, it is okay it is your first game with us, we are going through a process, which might take a few tries to get it right. Soon this game will be easy to play for you.

You still have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to fill out and week 1 will be completed. You are almost there!

Did you know: Two major fires swept through Tombstone during the 1880's. Legend has it that in June of 1881 a cigar ignited a barrel of whiskey at the Arcade Saloon. The subsequent fire destroyed over 60 businesses in the downtown area. But the town rebuilt itself and kept on growing. In May of 1882 another fire ripped through downtown Tombstone destroying a large portion of the business district. Again, the town rebuilt.

Did you know: Tombstone is the home of Boothill Graveyard. Boothill began in 1879 and was used until 1884 when the New Tombstone City Cemetery was opened on west Allen Street. After the opening of the new cemetery, Boothill became known as "The Old Cemetery". The City cemetery is still in use today. Legend has it that Boothill was named for the fact that many residents there died violent or unexpected deaths and were buried with their boots on. However, it was actually named Boothill after Dodge City's pioneer cemetery in the hopes of attracting tourists in the late 1920's. Many famous Tombstone folks lie there including the victims of the 1881 Shootout on Fremont Street between the Earps and the Cowboys.

DM Note: Make sure to post the top part of the section as well as the bottom part as I highlight the entire spreadsheet and work with it on a word document. I work on alot of character sheets at the same time so it is important that the name, date, and week is also posted for me to make it easier to process results. Thanks!
