I just watched Winter's Bone, it was pretty bleak and beautiful visually. Altogether I'd say it was quite well done. It's not my typical choice, but I noticed it was on instant watch, so I went for it. I haven't seen a movie in theaters since The Dark Knight.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows--Part Two. I found it quite good. As the final movie in the series, it hit all the right notes for me. Overall, I'm really impressed with the Harry Potter movies: the worst ones were at least decent, and how many series of eight or even six movies can make that claim? As an additional benefit, a number of scenes gave me some inspiration for possible set piece encounters.

Gurren Lagann the Movie: The Lights in the Sky Are Stars. It's the second and concluding Gurren Lagann movie. As a pastiche of super robot tropes, I can't really get much out of the characterizations, but as a mecha tall tale, it is unparalleled.

I was disappointed by Captain America The First Avenger.
I kind of liked Cowboys And Aliens.
I enjoyed Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

I saw Real Steel with one of my kids tonight - and it was GREAT! Yes, it was a predictable retelling of Rocky 1, but it was very nice. I recommend it!!

My zombie/(non-sparkly) vampire/werewolf-loving daughter and I went to see Underworld: Awakening that was just released. It was two hours of OMG great movie - with sixty seconds of "Ooh, we're gonna set up a TV SERIES" at the end that ruined the ENTIRE thing. While I admit that Kate Beckensale was just as hot as ever, it just wasn't worth it.

Oh, and India Eisley that played Selene's daughter is HAWT. Sure, she PLAYS a 12-year old, but she's 18... so I'm not truly being a perv. She played the smart-mouthed sister in The Secret Life of an American Teenager. She's one to watch for the future.

I couldn't place the Vamp coven leader until I looked it up - he is Charles Dance, whom I remember fondly as the bad guy with the glass eye from The Last Action Hero.

I just wish the last 60 seconds didn't destroy the franchise for me so totally.

    Red Tails. 3-Stars.

I'm looking forward to the prequel to Alien to be released this June. One can only hope it will be better than the prequel to The Thing that was released last year.
