I only have the beta rules so it might be different in the final release, but from beta, Diplomacy replaced Gather Information.
Is there a substitute for gather information in Pathfinder? I've been using knowledge: local, but it's based off of intelligence rather than charisma.
Thanks. Using diplomacy certainly makes sense.
I like a lot of the choices made to combine skills in Pathfinder, but this is one where I thought there could be a big difference between the skill of silver-tongued interpersonal exchanges and a more streetwise ability to know where to go, who to ask, and what to say to get the word on certain things. Someone could have both skills of course but I'm thinking the difference between, on the one hand, an ambassador or gifter, and, on the other a police detective or gang leader.
Using diplomacy makes sense, yes, but Diplomacy and Gather Info can still be separate skills. Diplomacy seems more focused on one person and opinion, while Gather Info strikes me as involving multiple people and facts.
Let's remember, both skills have the basic effect of turning roleplaying into rollplaying. I'll have to remember to award more XPs for the roleplaying.

Gather information is pretty much just Diplomacy, but depending on the situation I'll have knowledge local rolls to see what kind of demograph the are gathering from.
