I'd like to get a feel for those of you that have played Hero: how versed are you with this gaming system?
What versions do you know?
Which ones have you actually played?
Have you created a character in the system?
What genres have you tried with Hero?

How versed are you with this gaming system?

Pretty well versed in it since I can do pretty much everything I want with it.

What versions do you know?

I started with Champions 4E then worked through 5E to finally end up with 6E.

Which ones have you actually played?

I've played all three editions.

Have you created a character in the system?

Yes.

What genres have you tried with Hero?

I've run horror, fantasy, pulp, science fiction, post apoc, supers, and a modern genre.

Do you like to tinker with the powers, perks, talents, etc.?

Yes, I add to the talents and perks, but I don't mess with the powers since they're well balanced as is.

The last time I played HERO was fourth edition, and almost exclusively as a superhero game. (I played a lot of Champions in college before that.)

I've made a few characters in 4th, although I haven't tinkered with the system except (IIRC) to improvise power advantages and limitations.

That said, HERO isn't my favorite system. Superheroes aren't my favorite genre, and characters that I've seen for other genres look like low-powered themed superheroes to me.

I'd say I'm well versed with Fourth and previous versions, used to play weekly, with campaigns lasting years when in college. Haven't really played much since then.

What versions do you know?

Fourth edition was the last one I played in, but I do own Fifth edition. For superhero games, I really like the system, but I've been looking at Mutants and Masterminds and want to try that system out one day.

Up through and including Fourth.

Yes

I've also run a modern spy type game and some fantasy with it, but mostly just supers.

Do you like to tinker with the powers, perks, talents, etc?

Not really, mostly concerned with breaking the balance when introducing new powers etc so I try and work in the framework of the system.

Mostly 5thR, though I've switched to 6th ed when it came out and since then I only played once in a non 6th ed game (a 4th ed Star Wars game)

PA, Fantasy (both High and Low), Sci-Fi, Low & medium powered Superhero, Modern with a twist (alien invasion, alternate universe, Vigilante, etc.), Urban Fantasy, and many one shots of various nature.

Intimately. I run all my campaigns in Hero.

Using Hero since first edition Champions... so essentially all of them, though I have forgotten more of the old versions than I remember..

my first exposure was the champions-autoduel crossover sourcebook. i've since played champions a bit. and some other point based systems which are similar.

as i enjoy the super genre, i've never minded the theme. i've always enjoyed getting creative in those systems like champions and gurps which support player-customized fluff on top of the mechanics.

is there an official hero supplement for lensman? i am aware of one for gurps.

i always tinker with the powers, perks, talents, etc., when i am building a character.

As far as a lensman supplement, no. We did all our own interpretations, etc.

ah. yeah, gurps is notorious for getting permission to do rpg supplements for various properties.

4th edition here, I like it the best though I do have 5th & 5th revised and a few of the 5th edition splats

we used it mostly for Supers and Fantasy, had several long running campaigns with it, though I haven't touched it in years, other systems do the genres I like better
