I'm trying to figure out a few issues about Masquerade vampires without reading the 2E Revised core book cover to cover.
My first major question relates to the "Predator's Taint" issue in the Requiem cannon wherein vampires can sense each other and discern who's the bigger badder monster. Was there any such system in the old game?
No there was no such thing as predator's taint in the old system. Thus it forced players to stay on their toes when dealing with other Cainites as one never knew if they are dealing with a 12th Generation one or 6th generation one, other than by reputation and standing within ones society.
Yup. My favorite moment of an oWoD game was when the badass Toreador elder we were allied with turned out to just be a ghoul. never saw it coming. maybe if I hadn't trusted the tremere's opinion...
