I'll keep you posted, falinxelote. Rather, I'll keep this thread posted. I have another interested party... 4. If a guy taps out or skips someone else's game (SEG), he must wait at least two sessions to play his game again. Change to? 4. . . . he must play two SEGs before his game...

I'm itching to run another Skyrim game on my ever-evolving rule set. And what better setting for flying reindeer? Or mischievous elves? What I really need to hash out though, is a way to make the game a dungeon-crawl competition. Multiple players join, but the PC that survives the longest...

Do you have a finished or in-process RPG, and need some playtesters? Is it one that can be played online? Are you willing to playtest someone else's game to earn your playtesters? A homebrewer just posted a thread asking people to playtest his game, and it occurred to me: why can't you buy...

I just finished the first draft of the 1.3 physical conflict section, and I'm excited. Why excited? Well I had the new rules in mind, and I was pondering the age-old question: what does a GM do when his draugr get charged by PCs? And this caused me to explore the limits of the system. The...

Yes! I think this sort of system would work great for chases. It replaces "was my roll good enough to catch him?" with "okay, my progress indicates I've almost got him!" I just spotted something in Green Ronin's Song of Ice and Fire Roleplay, and thought it looked like a good idea. So here's...

Progress just got remodeled. It's an abstract way for the GM to measure goal completion. Here's an example: 3 PCs are trying to sew enough tassled uniforms to thoroughly confuse a gang of banditos when it arrives in the village. The GM sets the PC's max progress at 60, and bandito max...

Alright, maybe that's not the best choice for a name, but with holidays coming up some people are going to have more time for a good, old fashioned, online game! December 13 or 20th? Who's in?

I finished Skyrim. Twice. And I want to play Dragon's Dogma because it got a lot of good reviews and has nice graphics... But while I play DD I'm constantly saying to myself, "wow, this part of the game was way better in Skyrim." Anyone have this problem?

Roll X choose 1 sounds like a very nice simplifying step. You could simplify those task types further by making one standard action, and anything more complicated is just a combination of multiple actions.

This game works on an action-by-action basis, so you don't have to wait for your turn if you don't want to. However, characters waiting for their turn can get better results, and this careful action planning just got redesigned: https://modos-rpg.obsidianportal.com/adventure-log

Inspired by another thread on skill difficulty: I'm beginning the conflict chapter remodel. Up for careful rephrasing: the take half rule. This game uses opposing d20 rolls to determine contests, with the higher result finding more success. The take half rule states that anytime a die...

Thanks for the help - the draft spells I have so far are agreeing with you. I have: Burn, level 3, 1d8 damage over 3 actions, caster chooses one target per action. Flare, level 4, 1d8 damage after 4 actions, and spell affects 4 different targets. Since flare is a "multi" target spell,...

I'm not specifically looking for an in-system response, but since you asked: Everyone takes one action at a time. Which is to say - you're one person, so you have the physical limitations of one person. If someone casts a spell at you, you can spend your time defending against that spell,...

Designing some higher-level spells today, and there are two different ways to deal multiple dice of damage: 1) damage-over-time. As a fire spell, this would be a sort of flame-thrower effect. One target at a time. 2) all-at-once. This sort of fire spell would deal no damage until the end of...

Good idea, but it has its limits. You still need to protect the PCs from each other, and themselves. And since not all players are the best story-writers, the GM needs to maintain enough control to keep a decent story going. For example, a PC with too much agency might build himself a castle...

I missed Theme? Argh! And Villains is the final poll? Does this mean we're out of the design process, like 5e beta-testers on their final playtest?

DMMike replied to a thread Why Fantasy? in Fantasy Discussion
It's a tough question, but my thoughts on medieval fantasy are slowly condensing into this: Pre-industrial age people took care of business. Things were done with people-power. Their accomplishments came from fortitude instead of technology and chemistry. Or to put it another way:...

I'm creating cheat-sheets for players to use so they're not overwhelmed by options (skills, perks, spells...and equipment. Why not?) when creating characters. I'm currently using the oldest baseline - the fighter, caster, healer, and thief. So two questions: - Is this a fast and easy way for...

In theory, conversations get old, while GM tools don't. This forum is probably safer for necros than the discussion-style ones.
