To paraphrase Brecht: "What if they gave a slap fight, and nobody came?" :) Rogur was raised among sailors, in a crew that consisted of a significant percentage of Elven or Half-elven members. There were no racial tensions to speak of, but any group of beings, kept in close quarters for long...

Hi all, Thanks for keeping up the discussion. If you have anything to add to the summary, please call it out with formatting or in a separate post--I'm traveling this week and it's hard to spend the time on this thread that it deserves. I'll catch up next week, hopefully, before the next...

I hate to be a party pooper, while a lot of this great grandstanding on our parts as players we have to consider a few things: 1) None of our characters come from or have a Military Background (that I am aware of) and these are not 'basic strategies.' While I applaud the thoroughness of which we...

If Derim is planning on closing to melee range with the shrieker, then Rogur will use that movement as a chance to flank. If not, does shrieking count as "acting in the encounter"? That is, will Rogur be able to get combat advantage on the mushroom via First Strike? I'm guessing not. Since I don't...

"Huh," is all Rogur has time to say, and then he is rushing forward to hack at the thing before the noise can draw something bigger and meaner.

The plot thickens... Remembering the attack of the myconids, Rogur will ready an attack to be loosed if anything attacks us. Rogur - Provisional actions Rogur - Initiative Standard: Ready an action: Sly Flourish against attacking creature. Trigger: an enemy attacks the party. In the...

I'd guess that a magic trap wouldn't have a lot of reason to respond to Thievery attempts, but in the interest of completeness: Rogur - Thievery - Retroactively attempt to disarm stairway trap And because I'm a glutton for punishment: Rogur - Strength - Quickly open rusted doors (DC17) If...

Rogur will scout ahead up the stairs, although since we're lighting our way, it's not like we're going to be undetected by anything that's up there. :) Since we're proceeding with caution, I'm assuming we don't see anything weird about the stairs themselves. Move: Crawl up stairs to where the...

If no other votes to decide, then Noxias' plan is fine with me.

My vote (1 of 5--rest of the party, please cast your own): keep going north, then we can double back when we run out of northward progress.

In Rogur's case, it's because he needs hands free to swap weapons and load the sling. I expect it's also because sunrods are consumables, and we're seeing an example of the basic psychology of not wanting to lose something. (Which is why I have such a hard time convincing myself to expend a daily.)...

Ditto to both points of Ithelryn's post: Umiushi, you have hit on the important points of our "usual procedure", and I'd rather leave Blob than take it. But as I said earlier, I'm not going to raise a stink about it. I'll just say what I told my daughter when she wanted to bring a cat home: I'm not...

Chant - Four years later

by Palpatim on 08-08-2011 at 12:39 AM
"One of the first lessons any student of the Art must learn is how to separate illusion from reality," Chant said, as he stood at the center of a semi-circle of twenty students, mostly prospective initiates of the Corona Cor Igne, and therefore Tiefling, but with a few beings of other races. The Bright Kingdom maintained several Arcanae, but several wizards piled their trade as independent agents. and the Flamehearts had the benefit of notoriety, not to mention exclusivity. Tieflings were

Chant confronts Sir Listeneise

by Palpatim on 08-07-2011 at 05:55 PM
"The singing has stopped."

Chant looked up from his search, his breath fogging the chill air in front of him. The icy walls surrounding the party glowed faintly with light streaming through them from outside. Corw'achs looked over at Chant, concern showing plainly on his face, then returned his attention to the western passage, where shapes stirred at the far end, sending sounds of movement toward them. Fear gripped Chant's stomach suddenly, and his tail twitched anxiously.

Introducing Chant

by Palpatim on 11-10-2010 at 12:35 PM
"Chant."

His eyes closed, awareness unfocused, the word fell across his ears without leaving an impression. Breathe.

"Chant."

The word's repetition caused certain of his mental processes to stir, and he felt the tendrils of the world insinuate themselves back into his consciousness, pulling him against his will into the here and now.

"Chant!"

The tiefling's eyes opened, red-gold orbs flecked with obsidian

Introducing "Saucy" Rogur Kalor, ladies' man

by Palpatim on 07-21-2009 at 05:45 AM
Self-assured to the point of arrogance, Rogur earns his nickname from his wandering eye and unquenchable thirst. Apprenticed at 7 years old to a merchant captain in the port city of Imareska, he's been on the sea for so long he can't remember any other life. Rising to first mate of the sloop Jewel of Imareska, he seemed destined to take over as captain until the ship was sunk during an attack just as they left port. Swimming back to shore, Rogur fled and begun trying to rebuild his life. He is his
