I have DM'd as well as PC'd so here are what I look for in games:
Lack of Cliches.
Interesting, original plot.
If specific game worlds are necessary, tell me the books to read up on.
Generally i start as a level one and go up from that, but anythings fine, erally, as long as you make up for the level difference, monster vs player wise.
