To make things simpler, I would use the same yard-stick for all actions. The way you have your ranged attacks and tasks right now are two systems - just stick to one: touch = simple short range = moderate medium range = moderate long range = complex Out of range = ridiculous (why have this if...

I like the looks on my players' faces when they go looking for "Tomorrowland", and it just can't be found... until someone starts researching and discovers that there is a local place called "Kentucky" that, in the language of the Old Ones (TM), translates as "Land of Tomorrow". (it really does...

And for mapping hints: get some topographical maps from the interweb and print them out - go to a place like Office Depot or similar to get big, poster sized ones (should cost less than $5 for one good black and white poster). Then choose an elevation marker - and starting at the existing...

http://translate.google.com is the bestestest tool out there for exactly the reasons Tesral listed - you type in ONE word (or a series) and you can get about 30 different foreign words for it/them. And what's REALLY cool is the little speaker icon underneath the translated words. Click on it and...

What about the mass damage for a first level character? 1d6 hitting two out of every three attacks, all day long, never running out of blasts? Wow. I'll give it a whirl, though.

A CR3+ against a 2nd level party? I would hope they got their butts kicked - that SHOULD have been a TPK or close to it. Wow.

Falin, actually almost all of my problems with 3.5 went away with Pathfinder - and 3.5 destroyed almost all my problems with 2.0 (I skipped 3.0). I went from a 3" binder of house rules to about 3 pages with 3.5, and now I'm down to about a half-dozen "rules" I kept (killed familiars hurt casters,...

Malruhn replied to a thread [Gear (General)] Deceptively useless Magical "Artifacts" in Campaign Resources
Indeed! I remember racing into battle with "cursed" versions of my character's main weapon in hand - to "trip" and drop it accidentally as I was almost engaging the enemy. Invariably, one of the folks in the enemy party would pick it up and attempt to use it against us. (insert insane giggling...

My GMing style can be harsh at times but that is life. I don’t like to waste time looking up rules, if it isn’t too important I will just make something up. If you feel that the players are always right and things should always go their way then you are the not the right gamer for my group. I have my own children and don’t need to cater to players that whine when things don’t go their way.

TRUE roleplayers deal with the situation that unfolds and plays accordingly. I use a cause and effect style of GMing. From a players point of view it may appear as railroading, but that is impossible because I tend to make up my games on the spot based on character actions. My usual game preparation is to simply write down an encounter on a note card. If the players lead the story into a direction of a card then I run that encounter.

About Me
Biography:
I prefer more details on your characters actions. I don't like it when players simply state I roll my intimidation skill. Play your character, not the stats. As a GM I grant bonuses to rolls done in this fashion. I've been playing RPGs for 10+ years and running them almost as long due to no one wanting to be the GM. The main game that is played in my group is Star Wars Saga. I have run EVERY version of Star Wars, almost every version of D&D, Ars Magica, Marvel Super Heroes, and have played in many more. I also created my own Transformers system that I would like to test one of these days. As of now the group is rotating locations from Joliet, Bolingbrook, and Naperville as well as playing PC games and board games as well. We are a diverse group that could always use more players.

Control - You must learn control!

Some GM/DM/ST Advice:

The Monolog

There are times when you are running a game, and you set up the great encounter facing the big bad evil guy and the guy is about to spill the beans on his master plans. Cliché to the max but it happens. Ok there is always one smart ass player that will want to shoot him before he is done. As a rule of thumb just ask to not attack until after the monolog. This will solve a lot of issues.

I've come to the recent conclusion about my own styles lately.

I'm a dice chucker and this is why. If there were no stats there would be no dice and there wouldn't be a game. It would only be an interactive story. During yesterday's chat room game Dan/Sabby was facing an angry mob of 38. For the purist role player he played his character. He decided to retreat back into the store front and talk with the people. The clues that were presented to him (getting shot at 38 times and only
