really? i had not thought of it as subjective, but i think i see your meaning and point. i had thought that the numeric value of the noetic weight would prevent too much opinion versus concrete conflict resolution, but i suppose the process of validating noetic weight if challenged does effectively...

DMMike replied to a thread [Kobold Quarterly] Howling Tower: A Need for Speed in News
I like this concept: act quickly on your turn, get more immersion. Let me point some fingers though: if the game grinds to a halt on a player's turn, it's not just the player's fault. The GM is at fault for allowing the game to stop (not skipping over the player), and the RPG is at fault -...

DMMike replied to a thread [Kobold Quarterly] Pulp Sorcery: The Secret Art of Better Spell Descriptions in News
I was hoping this thread was titled, "Pub Sorcery." But I'm considering the implications of spells being listed in the GM's guide, instead of the player's guide...

Yup. Make it explicit. Assume your audience knows basically nothing until you tell it to them. Weighing in is great for the players. In fact, the players should almost be always doing something more than playing just one character (because the GM plays every other character, AND adjudicates...

I'm hoping that my proposed rule of allowing other players to 'weigh in' on a given conflict will factor into the GM's decision. Perhaps such guidance should be made explicit in a rule or rules for GM'ing. Also, the fact that noetic weight is a numerical value, has in effect the same result...

After petitioning the chat room for some bard-design help last night, this is what I came up with (yes, this is the entire character sheet): Kevwin of Bordrock, bard, level 3Attributes: P 14, M 8, MP 11 Skills: Defend (parry) +7 (+2), deceive +1 Perks: Toughness (18), heroic companion,...

No, it's not an encounter that's over in four seconds. The Four-Second Encounter is the one that you didn't plan, aren't ready for, and the players are already knee-deep in it. I'm turning it into a GM tool, and it looks like this so far: Just like the monster, anything you write up in four...

...which is...fluffy vs. crunchy? We'll break out of "cottage" when enough video gamers decide to cross over to tabletops. Then a gamer will be a gamer.

Since we're in the 20-teens now, do we get a new "Indie RPG" definition? Indie RPG: an RPG written by 10 people or less who were not paid salaries or wages by the production company, during the production of the RPG. Or does "indie" just mean "independent" of corporations?

First game crashed for various reasons. I'll run another one for any diehard Skyrim fans with the following solutions: - Game time determined by whole group, I guess weeknights are possible too. - Roleplaying/combat blend is flexible, but the default (at least in Skyrim) is 75% combat. -...

    1) Require them to watch your favorite sci-fi movie before the game starts, and be sure to give them a sizeable chunk of fiction to read based in your campaign setting. 2) Just go ahead and lose players, since that's why you're starting a new game anyway. 3) Star-Quake sounds cool to me, but...

I'm officially a supporter. I don't need compensation for my meager contribution - that would be akin to buying something, and then getting your money back with the purchase. So thanks for the great site, admins! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the invite to be a friend I read your bio and I feel your pain, I just moved to a new place and I can't find a soul that plays RPG's. I've played RPG's since Fifth grade....I just turned 38 so I've been playing a while! I look forward to reading your next Ravenloft installment! Talk to you later!

Hey, I just saw your comments on my blog. Thanks! Mentioning the fire beetles, I actually sweated it a little bit there. I thought those beetles would toast the party. I continue to be amazed at how resiliant these 4E characters can be. We had another session on Monday. We added another player and I'm glad. It's a hybrid bard/warlord. I'm glad too, because I think I put a little to much challenge into it. I used bug bears but could never get combat advantage against the party so the bugbears just slugged it out. I'll try to get the blog out tomorrow. Take it easy.

Man, I'm enjoying reading your blog. Wish I was back in So Cal so I could join your game. I was down in Pedro on business last week. Sure was nice to visit. My trip was too short. Liked your reviews on the shows. Last time I was in Vegas I did the Star Trek things, Mandalay Bay Aquarium and the Luau (As Vegas as you can imagine) thing at the Imperial Palace where I stayed. I didn't gamble at all but there's definatley plenty to do there without that.
  5. I didn't hear anything about the starwars campaign in a while now, are you still going to do it?

I had a lot of fun in your Ravenloft campaign last night. Can't wait till the next adventure, and your famous Giant frog attack "tongue lash".

Good hearing from you. How have you and the better half been these last 2 months? Good, i hope. Hows' her school going? What have you been up too? I am hoping to join in next week with your Ravenloft campaign, if the home remodel project is done by then, or course. I hope.

I was told you are really good with star wars stuff. Thom Amon told me I should get in touch with you for my question. started making my charecter last night and I could not find any Togruta (Shaak Ti). So can I still play that race and if so how would I make stats. If no one knows it is fine I will just play as cathar. Or you can find it in the star wars stuff under Starting a Charector.

About Me
Biography:
I'm 30 years old. I've GMed various games to my home gaming group in WV, but after moving to CA I was finding myself withdrawling from the lack of roleplaying games. I've played since high school (as mentioned above) so I have a lot of experience under my belt but don't think I'm a rules lawyer. I just enjoy a laid back time with a good night's gaming storyline with some great people. As For Games I've played and/or ran the following: Dungeons and Dragons (from 2nd edition-4th edition), Star Wars (my favorite was when it was d6, but I've ran and played the d20 version.), White Wolf's Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, Changling, Wraith, Vampire and Werewolf Dark Ages, as well as Abberant, Shadowrun (though didn't care for it much), Call of the Cthulu, and World of Warcraft RPG.

Reaper Mini Kickstarter

by Tamerath on 08-05-2012 at 02:14 PM
I know this is my blog, but I recently pledged to a kickstarter for the Reaper miniatures line "Bones". I'm not one to usually advertise for a company but this is so sick I thought I'd share it on here. So Reaper Minis have recently launched their BONES collection and they were looking for ways to explode their line. They've already surpassed that goal....but the deals you get for being a pledge member are just incredible. Currently for a 100 dollar pledge you are getting

New Group? Possibly

by Tamerath on 02-26-2010 at 12:51 PM
It feels like forever ago when I used to post to my blogs on this site. It's good to be back though. The topic of today is finding a good gaming group. My last group was awesome, nothing bad to say about them other than I can't seem to get back in the game for one reason or another. So it's back to hitting the pavement to find another group of players willing to game with me and my fiance.

I posted a fresh and new campaign in the registry http://www.penandpapergames.com/foru...ad.php?t=15170

Switching Gears: Light In the Darkness

by Tamerath on 06-23-2009 at 09:52 PM
I didn't know Obsidianportal existed till today when I got the email that our site "allied" to them. Fortunate for me, I checked it out and found a really cool tool to all of us dms out there. Basically the site is a wiki of sorts that manages the information we type into it...I've messed around with it and here's mine only an hour.

Also, you might have noticed if you followed that link that I'm closing up my Ravenloft

Expedition to Ravenloft Session 3

by Tamerath on 06-16-2009 at 04:38 PM
I'll keep this weeks post shorter than my usual with just sharing the highlights before I start preparing for the next game.

* The PC's entered into a "Bride of Dracula" senario with some of the women Strahd has turned over the years (the three brides were Pale Reavers that were "draining" Ireena while the "Master" was away), the PC's scared them off and were able to restore Ireena from a withered weakend and diseased creature on the virge of a necromatic

Hall of Maiden's Trap Encounter

by Tamerath on 06-08-2009 at 02:33 PM
The Maidsí of Strahd XP 2,400
Stained lace hangs neatly from eight canopied beds. In each bed, a figure of a young woman lays motionless, pale hands folded over her chest. In the eighth bed lay Ireena Kolyana dressed not in the armor you last saw her in, but a white wedding dress.
Perception
characters canít use Perception to detect this trap
Additional Skill: Arcana
DC 30 : the character notices that Ireena is just an illusion, but the rest of the women are real
