I really have nothing to say here. I've seen it too. Special snowflake taken to the extreme. "But...but consequences are for other people?" they cry. Break out the worlds smallest violin. :violin:

The ridged story arc I believe is an artifact of the ore-peropared module. By necessity they cannot be too free form. However GMs that grow up on this think that is how it should be done. Groups like the RPGA and Pathfinder Society do not help in the least as their games pretty much drag the...

My first speculative love was Star Trek. I found and read science fiction anthologies at school. Not so much into Fantasy per say. I read Lord of the Rings. You more or less were not allowed to leave the 70s until you did. My friends and I did role-playing before we had a system, the setting...

The simplest method I have found is to mirror the PCs in the army they fight with. The better they win the better the margin of victory. They worse they lose likewise. For any battle I give each PC two or three hero fights. There section of the army fairs exactly as they do. Oh and the...

Never do, protect the PCs from themsevles of each other that is. The right to fail is inherent in the game. Players that put their character on the sideline will find that character sidelined. The game is about going and doing, not sitting in the counting house.

She shakes your hand, seemingly quite relieved. The two of you set off. Over the next day the town resolves into a sprawling mess of buildings, not really a city; it looks more like three or four small towns and maybe a village or two expanded and ran into each other, leaving oddly clumped open...

maybe I'm just spoiled by my experiences, but I wasn't really aware that there WAS another way to run a game other than let the players, you know, participate? shared game = shared creativity, or so I thought. sure, one person may be the driving force for a particular game or campaign, but it's...

well, I can't say I do fantasy gaming instead of any of the others.... for me the attraction is the same regardless of genre - posing an impossible (or implausible) problem, and then solving it within the context of given conceptual framework.

You can lead a horse to water as the saying goes. I have one friend that had a bunch of passive aggressive players with a tendency to derail her game. She tried to make a system that was "player proof" Much like your friend. It is called a novel. If you have a way that an encounter must...

nijineko created a blog entry Rule of Yes in nijineko's world
In my various campaign rules postings, I have listed my preferences as a GM. However, I would like it explicitly stated that I believe in the Rule of Yes: if it is not forbidden or defined, it's allowable; and even if it is forbidden and/or defined, we can discuss a workaround... - and am willing...

ummm, i think that is a dm fault, not a system fault. my 3.x games have always defaulted to the rule of yes. and whenever they haven't, it was because of the DM. now, is 3.x a "good" system by your last bit of criteria there? 3.x does make mention of using the rules to enable the players, but the...

Well it is. Theft, assault and perhaps battery. The usual definition of an Honest Thief is one that steals without violence or fraud. Depending on the culture some theft is considered worse than others.

i was always impressed that ICE did much of the same with the MERP material (1st ed, anyway), placing a conversion chart to d20 in the opening pages of all of their releases. looking back over the last 8 years, it seems even more revolutionary that they did that now...

About Me
Real Name:
Garry Stahl
Biography:
I am Garry, I live in Dearborn, MI with the world's greatest Wife, three cats and a ball python.

I am an aging SF fan with too much time on his hands. I'm a long time wargamer and role-player. I have played some form of D&D since 1976. I'm an old Grognard and take a certain pride in that fact. I didn't start playing in school, they had to invent it first. Besides, have you tried to carve a character sheet out in stone?

Other games I have played?
I have played so many different games I forget. I'm willing to try almost anything once, but limited time means the days of four times a week gaming are long gone. I am also a model builder, somewhat musician, writer, Father, Husband, general handy man and computer enthusiast. I use Linux (openSUSE) and spend way too much time on the Internet.

The Necrothredmancer

I have noticed that the Fantasy campaign resources forum gets very little love. You go back four pages and you are back four years.

Well there is some good stuff in those pages that doesn't get any attention anymore. To rectify that I have been posting in those forums to bump the material to the front. To get the attention of people that have joined in the interval since it was posted, and slowly rolled off the front pages.

As mentioned in the past I am slowly getting

Once more into the breach...

by tesral on 10-18-2014 at 12:44 AM
Back again the intertubes have been boring.

I have not been idle gaming wise. My Saturday group has started a new campaign with a Norse feel. They are out to become the rulers of the north.

I have been working to get my long running game down in some coherent fashion. Two complete cities, Seahaven and Woodmanor two villages of importance Joy Island, and Malltranno, two more cities started Eyrie Keep and Hellsgate.

My ancient and crumbling world maps

To blog or not to blog?

by tesral on 02-19-2011 at 01:19 AM
With some of the profile features back I decided to give the blogs another look. I still see no way to edit the blogs once posted.

I don't have much to add right now. Gaming tomorrow. Last session got canceled due to people being sick or the weather being awful. I am jonesing for a game at this point.

Blog edited. Thank you Farcaster.

After Action, May 30th.

Ron -- Johnny male Elf, Toymaker
Sue M -- Sharpy female 1/2 Elf fighter
Tom -- Sy male mostly human psionic
Sue S -- Nelida female mostly Human cleric with a few tricks.

The session started with a bit of basking in the successful run to New City. It was decided to do some intelligence on the other gangs in the area, and see what it was going to take to absorb them. Discussed were:

The Wallmen, a gang pieced together out of two fighting groups.

Home Improvement 2: Revenge of the Tools

by tesral on 05-29-2009 at 05:11 PM
Long done short, we didn't get it finished. All the field work was done Monday but the trim is still being worked on. So the room is going back together slowly, and we have gaming tomorrow. (UGH!!)

Friday gaming is canceled this week due to three players being out sick. One I am worried about. The fellow has MD and can barely move. (He is in a power chair.) The flu is not a minor matter for him.

Well hopefully we will be back to normal next week with Friday gaming.
