the conflict resolution mechanic? well, it is a tertiary mechanic in order to provide a method of resolving deadlocks and ties to the primary method, noetic combat. i have been recently contemplating making it a quaternary mechanic so as to provide a greater focus on the purposed intent of the...

Something tells me it's a problem. Phone pile. All the phones in the middle of the table. First person to reach for one before the game is called pays for the pizza.

Eastern culture is pretty blood soaked too. Actions have consequences. I have always played that way. If you want a low/no combat game you neeed to offer appropriate conflicts. 40 Orcs with swords are not the deal. You also need to offer your players a satsifying means for resolving...

tesral started a thread [Campaigns / Adventures] Twelve Worlds Setting in Campaign Resources
The Twelve Worlds Setting It kind of grabbed my brain, moved in, and set up shop. None of this existed two weeks ago, ships, logos, descriptions, none of it. In short an outline for a space fantasy game. Still plenty to do to make a real setting out of it.

Role playing is a game, a game is a conflict. Ergo you cannot write conflict out of role playing games. If you don't have it you are writing poetry. Stories required conflict too. Now that said conflict can be resolved various ways. Combat isn't always the best. Yes, you can design and play...

Tools are as useful as you make them. Too much reliance on a given tool can flavor things and not always well. I'm all in favor of anything that make the mechanics of the game run more smoothly and not in favor it if gets i n the way. If index cards speed things up for you, do it. If a spell...

I would be concerned if it was best always wins circumstance. While yes it might for the way to bet the race is not always to the swift. If it is then why have a contest?

hmmm. please go take a look at my rules-light game thread over in the independent/small press sub-forum, if you haven't already - and even if you have, please provide more feedback. on one paw, i've found that while i like having a large range of options available for a character, that does not...

Boojums sound deadly. Like like the deathtopus.

Hello there. I like what you've done with your page. I don't run into many customized ones. I grew up in Battle Creek, right next to Dearborn. Anyways, I wish you luck with your gaming.

i was always impressed that ICE did much of the same with the MERP material (1st ed, anyway), placing a conversion chart to d20 in the opening pages of all of their releases. looking back over the last 8 years, it seems even more revolutionary that they did that now...

Enjoy face to face social role-playing adventure in a 30 year-old fantasy world (D&D variant) that has seen constant play since 1976.

All current gamers are on the mature side with an even mix of all major genders. Gamers of any experience level are welcome from old grognards to those new to the hobby.
About Me
Real Name:
Garry Stahl
I am Garry, I live in Dearborn, MI with the world's greatest Wife, three cats and a ball python.

I am an aging SF fan with too much time on his hands. I'm a long time wargamer and role-player. I have played some form of D&D since 1976. I'm an old Grognard and take a certain pride in that fact. I didn't start playing in school, they had to invent it first. Besides, have you tried to carve a character sheet out in stone?

Other games I have played?
I have played so many different games I forget. I'm willing to try almost anything once, but limited time means the days of four times a week gaming are long gone. I am also a model builder, somewhat musician, writer, Father, Husband, general handy man and computer enthusiast. I use Linux (openSUSE) and spend way too much time on the Internet.

Garry AKA --Phoenix-- Rising above the Flames.
My favorite game console is a table and chairs.
The Olde Phoenix Inn

An adventure in Windows

by tesral on 11-18-2014 at 09:11 AM
Not the MessySoft kind. Real solid physical windows with glass in them.

Last Saturday we at long last got rid of the 90 year old windows a in this 90 year old house. The change is amazing. No rattles, hardly any road noise, and best of all no drafts.

This comes courtesy of my wife wining the perfect loan contest at Quicken Loans where she works, The prize money paid for the new windows. Yea we are that domesticated, or homeowners, much the same really. Win a big prize

I have noticed that the Fantasy campaign resources forum gets very little love. You go back four pages and you are back four years.

Well there is some good stuff in those pages that doesn't get any attention anymore. To rectify that I have been posting in those forums to bump the material to the front. To get the attention of people that have joined in the interval since it was posted, and slowly rolled off the front pages.

As mentioned in the past I am slowly getting

Once more into the breach...

by tesral on 10-18-2014 at 12:44 AM
Back again the intertubes have been boring.

I have not been idle gaming wise. My Saturday group has started a new campaign with a Norse feel. They are out to become the rulers of the north.

I have been working to get my long running game down in some coherent fashion. Two complete cities, Seahaven and Woodmanor two villages of importance Joy Island, and Malltranno, two more cities started Eyrie Keep and Hellsgate.

My ancient and crumbling world maps

To blog or not to blog?

by tesral on 02-19-2011 at 01:19 AM
With some of the profile features back I decided to give the blogs another look. I still see no way to edit the blogs once posted.

I don't have much to add right now. Gaming tomorrow. Last session got canceled due to people being sick or the weather being awful. I am jonesing for a game at this point.

Blog edited. Thank you Farcaster.

Ron -- Johnny male Elf, Toymaker
Sue M -- Sharpy female 1/2 Elf fighter
Tom -- Sy male mostly human psionic
Sue S -- Nelida female mostly Human cleric with a few tricks.

The session started with a bit of basking in the successful run to New City. It was decided to do some intelligence on the other gangs in the area, and see what it was going to take to absorb them. Discussed were:

The Wallmen, a gang pieced together out of two fighting groups.
