No, DMMike, I was being a stereotypical, sexist bastage... I didn't even LOOK at the author's name, I automatically assumed that it was a guy. I apologize to anyone I may have offended - and I apologize to Charlie Jane Anders. I am usually quite good at being gender neutral or giving appropriate...

I gotta pay more attention to my Facebook "Likes" - this was an unsolicited "Recommended Link" on my timeline. And, yes, I checked for viruses and hidden Java crap before I posted it here. Facebook is getting to know me better than my wife does! Okay, on to critiques. The first...

Soft Serve started a thread Assorted Additions in Feedback
Please consider adding the following. Spoiler Tags in forum posts. Helpful for concealing big rolls in PBP games and large images in other thread types or for the standard "spoiler stuff" that people want to keep out of direct eye-sight just in case. For example, threads about Game of Thrones. ...

Agreed about the chat-friendly bit. If the judges here want to try to test one of the games submitted, the chat is the only way we could do that.

MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE A CON! :p /snark It has been working Mora, the chatroom record is now like 27 right? Or 25? And there's usually more people in there than there used to be. I still feel like the forums don't get as much attention as they used to / should. But we're stepping in the right...

We have the ability to put up files for download. And yeah, user votes and polls can be used. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I assumed the only reason we weren't already talking about / working on one is because of the P&PG con coming up taking a lot of focus.

I wish I would have known you five years ago... I donated nearly an entirely complete collection of Dragon, AND Dungeon mags to a local gaming shop as I didn't want to move them again... several large boxes full... several hundred pounds.

Here's a good, general question. How does a DM/GM teach players the lesson of mortality, that they can (and WILL) die? The HUGE majority of adventures/modules/campaigns are geared toward party levels (CR for D&Ders). How do you teach players that it's totally okay to turn around and run away? ...

i did have some programmers working on converting Gametable into a format usable through a site - but they petered out. i haven't managed to track down new programmers. i would like this site to become THE best support for PBP, PBC, & online TRPG players. as i have previously mentioned, i have...

Did you know there is a Dresden Game now! I heard about it in a forum. Thanks for pointing that series out. I love it. I am only on book 4 of the series. But I won't stop till I am done with them all. Really great story

I came to see if there was an actual picture of you on here. I figured with your fondness of pictures and quotes and general use of google you would have one. I was apparently wrong. Nice Zoo and Snowy pics though.

Dirty Hippie Gamer Musing: "What Is Roleplaying?" and Gaming Styles

by Sascha on 04-08-2011 at 10:32 PM
I sat down this morning to read through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness for a pseudoreview retrospective, made it past the table of contents easily and with no offenses taken at the authorial tone ... and then came to the first real page, where Erick Wujcik proceeded to annoy me as a reader. (To be fair, there's more than likely some Kevin Siembieda in those initial paragraphs, as some of the content is - typical for Palladium products - reproduced verbatim in the other game

Wherein I Read Star Wars D6, Second Edition

by Sascha on 03-06-2011 at 07:32 PM
As a kid practically raised on Star Wars (and other pop culture media experiences, often produced by George Lucas), this game was a staple of my formative roleplaying years. During the short window of sixth- and eighth-grades, my gaming lexicon consisted of Palladium's games, Rules Cyclopedia D&D, and Star Wars. Pretty much in that order, too. I have changed in the two decades since first picking up a bucket of dice and pretending to be a Jedi-in-training, so I figured I'd take a second look

The Dresden Files RPG: Kickback City

by Sascha on 02-03-2011 at 12:38 PM
A quick summary of our Dresden Files game, up to the latest session.

Washington, D.C.: "Kickback City"

- Themes (Aspect): Entrenched political groups make it difficult to enact change (Us vs. Them)
- Threats (Aspect): Growing dissatisfaction calls the underprivileged to action (What About the People?); New powers make plays for established territory (Small Time, For Now).

The Cast

Roll-Playing, Rule-Playing

by Sascha on 10-25-2010 at 12:24 PM
Normally in these blog posts, I try to get cute and dance around the point with humorous language. I'm not going to do that here.

These terms - derogatory descriptions of other peoples' fun - aren't helping. They aren't speaking to truth, they aren't adding to the quality of discourse. They're divisive language, whose sole purpose is to draw lines in the sand as to who belongs and who doesn't. Play style differences are absolutely *not* justification for disrespect, and treating another's

Wherein I Read the Dresden Files RPG

by Sascha on 08-15-2010 at 11:36 PM
It's just about time for the start of the fall semester, and I decided to give myself a back-to-school treat, in the form of the Dresden Files RPG pdfs. (I wish I could have afforded the physical hardcovers, but alas. There's always the various gift-giving holidays~)

The usual background info: The Dresden Files is easily my favorite series centered on a wizard named "Harry," and fighting hard with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 'trilogy' as my favorite book series overall.
