The game I used it in was fun but in the end extra mechanics like that tend to slow the game way down. What is needed is a light but descriptive system. Something along the lines of flat rate across the board effects. I have a system now that has a status system for locations. there is a status for...

my point is though that no item is truly useless the players or GM just haven't found a use for it. For instance I gave a party a set of jewelry made of gold with a illusion scene on them and the scene changed when you changed which pieces you were wearing. A very pricey piece of artwork I thought....

Like I said its just work software for me, company laptop and all. I don't really know the specifics on cost or anything. But yea I agree with tesral there has got to be a setting you've got adjusted odd to make your files that large cause my biggest work stuff with exploded 3D models and all is...

I'm just using my work software. I think its actually adobe. The only setting change is just like a normal print to paper tabs and orientation etc... i printed a 4 page excel with images to pdf and it was 550 kb. I double checked it is adobe software.

I usually write up a table of contents for my stuff and since I'm a big fan of my Print to PDF add on to word I tend to just compile it all in a set of pdfs that are like "player info" and "stuff only i know". The latter is usually way longer but that, I guess, is cool. My contents section matches...

So I've been working on a space fantasy setting for about a year now and I started getting bogged down in the current and historic events section. So much so that each of the races at one time or another had a very expansive "how they got to space" history. I enjoyed writing all this but got very...

Well, I agree with you, sort of. It is just to much to ask to have one system of combat work and be interesting for 2 combatants or 2000. I mean you are going to have to give up some realism in order to save some time and make it enjoyable. I'm not trying to start an argument but I think the best...

Adjazar Discription: A short race of robe covered, dark faced creatures. Their eyes glow from the accumulated mana within their bodies. They stand between 3 and 4 foot tall with blue, four fingered and toed hands and feet being the only portion of their anatomy anyone outside their species has...

So I have been developing a game setting for just over a year now. Its set in space (hence posting it here) but it includes a varied system of tech including some cultures that use a from of solar radiation called mana to create magic type effects. It's very much a galaxy divided as most of the...

Good point. Aiming at teaching someone else the setting and you're sure to be able to run it again even years later.

Of course I also wrote a program at one point that actually ran the whole combat and stopped on the players inits showing me the enemies stats at the time and locations were by grid you could attack anyone in your grid. But that one was clunky and required a lot of tweeking for a new type of battle...

Basics I basically boil the fight down. Each "Unit", be it legion or group of 10 town guards, gets stats and combat values as if they were an individual. HP is the total number of Hit Dice among the unit. When a unit reaches 10% of its max HP it is defeated if it reaches 0 then it is destroyed. I...

Mostly its just the openness of a world without as much order as today. I play both fantasy and sci fi games but fantasy is the usual just because its a lot easier to work with a world filled with magic, there is an innate suspension of disbelief (for me) I work in technology so the sci fi stuff...

Yeah most people I have played under have very ridged story arcs and they want you to follow it exactly. My style has always been more sandbox than not. But lately I've gotten to where I plan only vague "at some point the players find a cursed coin." It will lead them to a story arc I have and if...

The OP's cloak is a very useful item to a group with a thief and a cleric with remove curse. All I'm saying is Disguise. Also the orb man I had players that would have used that all the time. It stays were you put it for a minute. Use that to help climb the tricky section of a cliff or wall, use it...

falinxelote replied to a thread [DM / Player Tools] It's the Law in Campaign Resources
I've had people quit my game over it. They wanted to play evil and when they got arrested for theft and imprisoned they got all butt hurt over having got caught. I gave them a fair chance to con the judge, to escape to authorities, or to plan the crime better so they had a fall guy or some other...

I tend to run sandbox I just don't let my PC's know they are in a sandbox. They usually think I spend hours planning the game when truthfully they do most of the work I spend maybe 1-2 hours a week just writing NPC's and getting some cool encounters together. The main story is player driven. I...
