We are looking for another one or two people to round out a new D&D 4e game (actually, it’ll only mostly be D&D 4e, but more details on that later). We played growing up, but haven't found time to play as adults until recently. We started another campaign recently, but lost a couple players for work reasons and have decided to start another one. Unfortunately, most of our friends are non-gamers, so we're spreading the net a bit wider.
Us: Some relatively normal people, with a healthy dose of closet-nerd sprinkled in. We have jobs and most of us have families and we all pay our taxes. You'd never pick us out of a line-up of potential D&D players, but we're not ashamed of admitting that we'd happily spend an evening hacking up goblins.
You: Maybe you're like us; you think of playing now and then, but have no idea with whom you'd play. Or maybe you’re a seasoned veteran. Maybe you played as a kid, and maybe you didn't. Maybe you wanted to, but your older brother didn't let you. It's a plus if you know the rules, but not knowing them is okay, too, as long as you're willing to do a little homework. You could be any age, any race (except Orc), male or female, whatever. Most importantly, you're interested in having fun as part of a collaborative, supportive, creative, open-minded group.
The Style: Casual - in other words, we don't spend the evening speaking in funny accents ‘cause… well… that makes us uncomfortable. We do take the game "seriously," but by that we just mean that we pay attention and we make every effort to make the game fun. We also place importance on teamwork - otherwise, what's the point of getting together?
Time & Frequency: Thursdays are currently our day of choice, though that could change if the group agrees. We're hoping to play a bit more than twice/month, but it will depend on people’s schedules. Maybe we can play five times every two months. We'd start at 6 or 7 and go until we get tired (11?). Dinner would be take out. Our general rule is that if one person can't make it, we play anyway (unless it's the DM, of course), but if two people can't make it, we reschedule. Of course, it’s always best if everybody can be there.
Place: Usually Palo Alto, but sometimes other places to make driving times fair. E.g., maybe we’ll play in the city once in a while, but we won’t meet farther south than Palo Alto and we won’t meet in the East Bay.
Online: We'll also post some stuff online so we can make better use of our in-person sessions (e.g., the DM might set up the next session a bit and the players might make some group decisions that get them to the next dungeon or city or wherever). This isn't a big time commitment, but it does entail checking the forum now and then and contributing when appropriate.
Combat/Roleplaying: We'll probably be about 75% combat with 25% role playing. If you're the kind of person that REALLY loves the story and just tolerates the combat, this probably isn't for you. But if you're the kind of person that enjoys the combat, and enjoys it even more if there's a good story woven in, then great! We do love our characters and we try to go the extra mile to breath life into them.
Main rule set will be D&D 4e (which most of us just learned, so it's totally okay if you don't have it down cold - everybody is very mellow and friendly and helpful with that stuff). But the campaign will, from time to time, use some other rule sets. Yes, that probably piqued your curiosity a bit, so if you’re interested we can discuss that a bit more.
Hopefully that’s enough info about us. If you’re interested, please write and tell us a bit about yourself and maybe we can meet for a coffee or just have a chat on the phone. Thanks for reading.
