As a player, I love well structured games where the DM knows what he is willing to allow and keeps the party on track.
As a DM, I prefer 50/50 rp/combat, with players succeeding based on skill and original thinking. I plan out every encounter down to the last detail, because every single one of them is fun and important. I try to incorporate terrain, maps, tiles, visual representations, and for special encounters I may use representations of the monsters.
I started playing AD&D ten years ago, and moved onto 3rd and 3.5 a couple years later. I absolutely love the way 3 and 3.5 play, and sold all my 4th edition books so I could go back to enjoying my favorite game. I've played in Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, and Homebrews, and I always run Homebrew campaigns.
I like playing about 2x a month but am open to more if I get a good rapport going with a group.
