Welcome to the site. I can't say I've ever heard of Warring Lands. I hope someone can help out.

Ow, I'd rather leave him really. Umi, as for the usual process, I think you've managed it on the nose. Yrisz will keep to the center her eyes peeled and everburning torch held high! Good luck Vanguard people!

really? i had not thought of it as subjective, but i think i see your meaning and point. i had thought that the numeric value of the noetic weight would prevent too much opinion versus concrete conflict resolution, but i suppose the process of validating noetic weight if challenged does effectively...

Does anyone have recommendations for small, independent games they've played? I'm just looking to find something unique, and to keep the pulse on this area of gaming.

I do think that Yrisz will do her bit to aid Nox contemplating the etchings, she'll also throw in a bit of Religion to spice things up a bit. Arcana Check to aid Nox History Check to aid Nox Religion Check where she might add something useful As for our next explore path, North sounds...

I don't think the particulars matter anymore. Generally speaking most of the "story games" and "narrative games" et al are lighter in crunch. Simplification and focus seem to be the hallmarks. Traditional games tend to have more crunch and follow some standard design patters. This is not universal....

I second Palpatim's vote, as I'd prefer things get resolved in terms of dividing stuff up. That said, if Yrisz starts getting 'a bad feeling about this place' or something of that sort (Nox suddenly gets a while look in his eye), then a grab and dash will quickly be in order...For that later...

I'm hoping that my proposed rule of allowing other players to 'weigh in' on a given conflict will factor into the GM's decision. Perhaps such guidance should be made explicit in a rule or rules for GM'ing. Also, the fact that noetic weight is a numerical value, has in effect the same result...

I think Indie is any game not published by one of the big 5; Paizo, WOTC, FFG, Steve Jackson Games and Pinnacle. Everything else is basically Indie at this juncture. Small press, small group, freelancers and outsourcing. Evil Hat MAY be coming up to make a big 6, but that would be more in sales...

Hi all, back. Long days at work and long weekends...sigh. As for the game, Yrisz will wait for somebody to assign her an area to search and she will be about it (which is an Umi roll). Which assumes nothing dramatic happens in the meanwhile. Dum dum dum!

The arcane talking style of the Mimic leaves Yrisz in an utter daze, her thought clearly racing to nowhere across her face. Outstanding!! I really dig GURPS 4e, I just don't have the patience and time for the fiddly-bits at the moment. But I regularly STEAL stuff out of GURPS for my other games. There's just way too much great info in there to pass up! :-)

Farcaster, please forgive me for posting this here, but I've tried PMing you several times recently and was never answered any of them, so maybe my account won't send PM's?

I'm sorry if I've annoyed you in any way, I know I've screwed up and such, but I hope you understand I've genuinely tried to be good, it was never my intention to cause any harm.

I've patiently waited out my infraction time, but when I tried to join the chat (for a game a friend of mine scheduled, Juno-Ome to be specific) it says I'm still banned.

I agree PM's would be a better place to discuss this, so please PM me a response. Again, I'm sorry, but I have no where else to turn.

The Gatekeeper Campaign Log

by Farcaster on 10-14-2011 at 07:14 PM
I kicked off a new campaign about a year and a half ago called "The Gatekeeper," and I have had the extremely good fortune of having a published WotC designer and author at the table with us, Mr. Erik Scott de Bie. Erik, I have come to find out, is a tenacious writer. In the first few weeks of our game, he actually sent me more post game followup than all my players combined have sent me in the following year.

So, I asked him if he'd focus that insatiable pen of his towards

The Year of Blue Fire: Gearing Up

by Farcaster on 12-13-2010 at 02:52 PM
So, our first game for the Year of Blue Fire campaign is coming up this Friday. Iíve got the basic concept together for the first adventure, but I still need to sit down and stat out potential encounters and spend some time jotting down key locations and information. I usually work well under pressure and it is a first level game, so Iím not too worried about it.

Iíve decided to try out logging the campaign on Obsidian Portal. I created a campaign there last night. So far, Iíve only

The Year of Blue Fire - Campaign Background

by Farcaster on 11-22-2010 at 04:14 PM
I am starting up another campaign soon. I may be a little crazy for trying to run two games simulateously and "assist-DM" in a third, but I just couldn't resist when my buddy asked me to run a game for a group he was putting together.

Unlike most games I have run in the past, I'm not coming to the table with a campaign idea already in hand. Instead, I am working with the players to create their backgrounds and then I am going to build the campaign organically from their

Have you checked out d20Pro?

by Farcaster on 04-22-2010 at 03:58 PM
d20pro pushed out an update today. Version 2.1 is out of beta and available for download.

You know, I recently ran a 4th edition demo game using d20pro. It's actually a pretty sweet little app for running remote games, and even for using as a digital replacement for your battlemat at your regular face-to-face games as well. It was designed specifically for the d20 OGL ruleset and has a set of plugins to integrate nicely with Pathfinder. There are also patches for 4th edition, and

Why I'm Starting to Consider the iPad...

by Farcaster on 03-01-2010 at 11:00 AM
A few short weeks ago when the iPad was first announced, I was not among the throng of excited Apple groupies who had already made up their minds before Steve Jobs took one step onto the podium that I would be buying this device no matter what it did. I've never quite understood the mentality of if it has XYZ sticker, I simply must have it, and that extends to the iWhatever-the-Hell-They-Come-Up-with-Next. I was a late adopter to the iPod, simply because I never wanted to spend
