The Greeks disappeared into the Mountains. As far as everything else goes- no new news.

I agree that we need some security around the temple. That's definitely something we should work on sooner rather than later.

"The Star Elf temple was moved and established in the Southern Tip of the Great Forest (Thol'Marin Wood). Stone by Stone the temple was reconstructed with it's huge flat slab and monoliths thanks to some very overworked Earth Crafters and Magical aid. Once accomplished the workers simply left and went home. The Balenorn now is the only overseer of the temple." - We already agreed that we needed to have some kind of an outpost manned by this temple. I suggest an oupost of some kind, maybe with a stone outer wall and a stone tower manned by a battalion sized element of troops and possible a cleric or two.

You want an entire Cohort to secure the temple? That's half your active duty forces unless you want to spend the money to raise more. You can certainly do that. You guys just haven't put any initiatives forward to increase your military strength.

I was thinking a battalion's worth of soldiers, like approximately 1,000-1,200 soldiers. I just mean, we would create a permanent stone outpost with a watch tower to house that many soldiers. You know, the size of a battalion HQ. I'm not as up to date on roman stuff, but I figure some barracks, mess hall, a few offices, stables, small smithy for repairs and a small temple. Of the total, I'd include at least a company of archers and a company of cavalry and 1 or 2 clerics. Nothing extravagant. I'm thinking more like a permanent FOB. That make more sense? FOB Thol'Marin.

Your going to have to increase the size of your Army. You just need to approve the funding from treasury.

I'll see how much it costs. Building a FOB wont be a problem -just time.

A Cohort is about 500 men. A Fob (Roman Marching Camp) that size means you need to raise 2 Cohorts minimum.

Here is the math on soldier payroll:

3sp per day, and NCOs and Officers get paid 4sp+sp/level.

30 days per month x 3sp)=90 sp per level per month OR 9 Gold per level per month.

You could raise 3 full Cohorts (1,500 troops) and the monthly payroll would be: 14,500 - outfitting them all in Roman kit would cost around 90K.

Total start up cost with 1 full month pay added = 104,500 gold. For that you get 3 Fully Armed and Armored Cohorts (1,500 troops) who already received 1 months pay. Their total monthly pay is 14
    ,500.

Your Legions stretch the bounds of normal as most only have 6 centuries per Cohort not counting the double strength century Prime Cohorts in each Legion. Each of your Cohorts has 10 Centuries. This gives your Legions 8800 troops as opposed to the normal 5600 not counting attached Cavalry which are entirely led and manned by nobles of the realm and foreign nobles of vassal kingdoms.

3/10/2012 game notes, per the DMs request:

The council, minus High Lord Maethl, who is off in Rome straightening some sort of Senatorial business, meet with the Iron Elves at a local tavern. They are agreeable to working for us as independent mercenaries, not directed by our military, and only taking orders from us. Given their reputation as fighters, we're fine with that, and will continue to work out the details for that. For now, they are granted permission to settle an approx 20 sq mi area of Victoria between Victoria (city) and the halfling settlements, spreading out along the river, in the vineyards, and up into the woods. They also have permission to use an unoccupied area of the mountains for their aerial elves.
Then the council holds regular council business. Among other things, we agree that, given the rapid expansion of Victoria city and the influx of people from other areas (scholars, for example), and a resulting increase in serious crime, it is past time for us to establish a Civic Legion. Pope Mistrl will make items to enhance our police force's abilities--+5 Sense Motive and +5 Perception. This arrangement will entail 3 shifts for 24/7 coverage, and therefore 5 cohorts. (Costs for this are pending DM notice.) Along with this, we need to construct a regular jail tower (10,000 out of community funds) and a tower more appropriate to noble and/or magical using prisoners. Ambassador Jacob Black will fund that 100,000 from his funds. Our first legion is almost 100% complete, and the second has started training. Outfitting the second legion will be free, courtesy of the metal gathered from the Posleen slaughter. The university, also, is expanding rapidly. We've arranged for the Star Elf Baelnorn to train the top 15 or so magical students. We also discussed building teleportation circles as a means of paid transit, from which we could earn further income. Pope Mistrl is responsible for setting this up. He is also responsible to let us know what was done with the Posleen wands retrieved.
At the end of our business, we are greeted by an emissary from the Emperor, Fidelius. Our assistance is needed on a special matter requiring our unique capabilities. Intelligence has emerged that the remainder of Lord Calare's Blood Crows have fled to Greece to align themselves with powers in Sparta. Unrest in Sparta has already contributed to Athens becoming a vassal state of Sparta, and others are falling or threatened. Argos is actively Spartan and has a defense past with Helicon, for example, a major port city on ocean coast AND river that runs to Mt Olympus.
The First Lord wants us to eliminate those agents involved, and with them destroy all traces of Roman involvement. This is to be done without others finding out for whom we've acted. These agents are known to have a base camp in the mountains west of us, near the Elven lands and the mining city of Tavium. We are to destroy all present there and proof of them, and establish if there are further camps to be eliminated as well. He attaches our first spear with us as a cursor, Marcus Valerius (who we don't bother to find out til much later is a master fury crafter, with abilities in all 4 elements. oops!)
We get to Tavium via Lorien, after picking up work undercover as mercenaries/ guards for an eccentric merchant named Marvin, with his two henchmen Linus and Jellius, orphaned homeless brothers who we discretely point towards Victoria province for better jobs and futures. The main result of our time with Marvin is that we meet Rocky the Raccoon, a large and often unruly (and profane!) intelligent raccoon, who takes a liking to us and apparently follows us to pop up later in our quest. We also earn a few silver, which we all immediately spend in Tavium, information seeking. Knight Danlin and Pope Mistrl play good cop, bad cop in a bar, and meet Legate Andreas Falco, with whom Mistrl is able to develop good relations, and in the process get us a writ for wandering the wilderness area around the hunting camp (We are in High Lord Sirius's land.), as well as an unofficial promise that if we stay out of visible law breaking trouble, he won't bother us. the Legate also gives us directions to the hunting camp in question. Mistrl is also able to determine that there are about 2 centuries of Roman troops not attached to the militia of Tavium, scattered throughout the two inns.
Meanwhile Galliena takes her cleric Portia with her to the bathhouses, where she hires a popular Egyptian girl who generally works with male clients. 500gp and the offer of a new life in Victoria get her to open up about the men we're seeking, sadists who have left her scarred from their encounters. She tells Galliena that there are two more camps, 1 east of Mt Olympus and one on the NW slopes of Olympus. That is their main camp/ seat of their power.
She also warns specifically about several of them. their commander is Cassius Marcellus, a cruel, xenophobic, misogynist who also hates the Emperor and is in league with Sparta to help take over Rome. (he has blonde hair, blue eyes, a scar on his forehead, 30 years old, 5;9") The most vicious agent, however, is Andreas Carpolus, (black hair, brown eyes, pudgy, 6'1", muscular, smells bad, very educated/ speaks well, with a scar across his nose from it being split) who loves to torture, and is a powerful spell caster, surrounded by a cadre of powerful spell casters, including conjurers who summon demons, warlocks, and 3 very powerful women feared by all of them and known as the Black Witches. One of the witches is Dusori, a foreigner. Even the Blood Crow high priest is terrified of them. This group also plans to take over the Elven lands, putting all survivors into slavery, and burning most of the Amazon Forest.
Mistrl teleports the nameless Egyptian girl back to our villa to await "Lady Galliena"'s return, so she can work for her.
We get to the hunting lodge and discover few servants and guests, and very odd behavior from those who are there. After we've experienced the Shining/ Hotel California, culminating at the pre-party for the Winter Ball, we burn the whole place down, after killing a demon and a bunch of undead. Then an angel shows up with 2 pit fiends and tells us to tell Remius that his debt has been repaid. Marcus Valerus, in the process of burning the place down for us, finds the corpses of the Blood Crows, with their tattoos, hanging on meat hooks. Apparently they summoned something a little too big for them, and paid the price. Because the place is burned to the ground, all evidence of Romans is destroyed, per our instructions.
However, we do find Rocky the raccoon in the stables, and in a basement room that survived the fire, we find 3 million worth of gold ingots &7 wands of lightening bolt, CL12, 10 charges each, rechargeable, & 10 saddles/ lances for dragons, brand new, magical, w/10 charges each of lightening bolt, CL20. (*We need to figure out what we're doing with this.) Jacob and Mistrl just teleported it back to Victoria for now. It should be enough to pay for our third legion, aside from one brick we gave to Marcus Valerius as payment, and then some. We also find a sword in a stone, which explains in Elven about the battle that took place here.
Then the druids and their centaur palladin hallowed the property, releasing the ghosts of thousands of elves, dragons, etc. Turns out Jacob's "Shining" dream about a giant battle/ slaughter of Elves and dragons on this site was reflection of an actual historical occurrence in the Golden Age of elves. It occurred about 500 years ago, when Rome was at war with the elves. An old man shows up and promises to show us the exact locations of the other two camps if the druids will raise a temple here for the Elven gods and Maliki, in honor of the lost to history battle of Avalon. The druids also assign Seamus here, so the Amazon forest will have druids again, for the first time in 2 millenia.
To get to the next camp, we have to go through the Elves territory, without our elven high lord to treat with them. We manage to pass unscathed, both through the Wild elves' territory and the high elf city of Gondolin. Gondolin in a magical city of crystal, and also a busy center of trade, with a large roman embassy. We even see some of the dwarves there doing business!
Approaching the second camp, we see a Greek temple on the ridgeline. We discover a camp full of corpses, both Greek and Blood Crow bodies left unburied, despite that being a Greek taboo. Something caused them to leave and leave fast, not in the direction of the temple. We do find in the commander's tent a strongbox containing 10,000 gp & 50 scrolls written a code that will need to be deciphered. We can tell a Blood Crow wizard is among the dead.
Marcus suggests we stay overnight at the temple, which turns out to be to Hephaestus.
Knight Danlin is the first to venture into the temple, and meets the high priest of Hephaestus, Glackus, who is overcome when Danlin seeks Hephaestus' blessing. He imparts to Danlin the blessings of Hephaestus, which would advance our craftsmen all around. In return, we are to build a temple to Hephaestus as part of our pantheon, since the Romans don't have him in their pantheon (This temple is going to cost about 500,000, out of community funds, I would assume.), and take one of his acolytes along to be his priest. It turns out that Hephaestus and the Lady of Light are friends or something, so his temple will be connected with hers. In response to this offer, he also grants us all individual boons...darkwood armor for the druids, for example, as well as an altar to Maliki in Hephaestus' temple.
That night while resting we hear a gong banging outside, unrelated to the temple, and go outside to discover a demon named Malvesh, followed by a large crowd of Greek Hoplite and Roman Blood Crow undead. He warns us that he is there to make a deal with us or kill us, which involves him wiping out the third camp of Blood Crows for us, if we just leave. But he won't tell us who he speaks for, at which point Mistrl and Galen get really annoyed and roast and disintegrate him and his 200 undead minions.
At that point the avatar of Hephaestus himself drops out of the sky and kills 200 more we hadn't seen, including some spellcasters. He then drinks and feasts with us. Tells Mistrl he's friends with the Lady, and makes her staffs for her. That there are 6 others like him in the world, although not on this continent (I think.). One in Greece was killed in battle recently, and he warns that forces will be targeting Mistrl as well, but that if Mistrl spreads her word, Heph will build more staffs for her.
He also tells us that the Greek unrest is just a symptom of the problem brewing. That even gods are participating, including those from the Underworld. We are servants of Jupiter/ Zeus, but he asks us to venerate him in our pantheon. He will also help with fury crafted roads for this.
Then he imparts information to us from Zeus, who is aware of us and cheering for us, working in league with Jupiter. That Sparta has been suborned by extraplanar creatures being directed by demons, including Jafael, who is probably led by another, but is already demi-god status himself. Argos and Helicon are hard pressed already, but if we help save Greece, Zeus will give us each an individual boon. And if we put Greek temples in our land as well as Romans, we will forever have his protection. (Apparently he appreciates our openness to all religions and cultures.) He grants specifically to us one item, Goggles of True Seeing, max level, to identify those who are his enemies. And he tells us our one advantage in his fight is our ally Remuel, who will need to be called out of his cushy retirement job in the library to serve with us again. Mistrl teleports back and summons him to us, where he speaks with Heph and is promised some of his powers back if he helps us.

so...we will be dealing with True Fallen, Demons, and war in Greece. The Emperor expects us to deal with all of it. If we succeed, we will have wealth and prestige beyond our wildest dreams, and Heph on our side.
Our next battle will be against the heavy hitters/ spellcasters/ undead wizards in the third camp, on Mt Olympus.
