So instead I thought I would try to be more positive and talk about cool things in other games I like and often consider incorporating into a single Frankin' game.

  • Rolemaster - Critical hit charts. These were always quite funny back in the olden days of my misspent youth. I don't use them anymore, but I am seriously thinking about it again.
  • Palladium Fantasy - The spell system and spells are pretty cool. I also like the way armor is handled, in that it takes damage and degrades in effectiveness and needs to be repaired.
  • Twilight 2000 - Insta-kill rule that applies only to PC's. While I don't use the exact rule I now only allows PC's to crit. If I roll a 20 as DM it is just a hit, nothing special.
  • 4e D&D - critical hit damage rules. Max weapon damage plus an additional weapon damage die roll. Because, seriously nothing sucks more than doing 2 damage on a crit.
  • 5e D&D - short rests and self-healing, the show must go on.
  • Dragon Age RPG - melee stunt system is really cool and I would love to incorporate it into my current game. Also the way titles and honorific work is really worth incorporating into any game.
  • Savage Worlds - Edges and Hindrances are interesting. Was thinking of allowing PC's in current game to take one every third level. Game will most likely cap out at levels 10-12, so just a handful.

Well that's all I have for now. ]]>

10 Things You Hate as a DM http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/showthread.php/30799-10-Things-You-Hate-as-a-DM?goto=newpost Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:34:12 GMT Here I go with all them negative waves. 1. Magic weapons that arent. You know, weapons that only have a bonus to hit and damage. Pretty lame... Here I go with all them negative waves.

  1. Magic weapons that arent. You know, weapons that only have a bonus to hit and damage. Pretty lame if you ask me.
  2. Character background stories. Sick to death of every character being Mr. sad sack loner with no social ties and such. From now on every character comes for a normal background with living relatives. Plus it annoys me when people write 15 pages and expect me to incorporate it the game, sorry I have better suit to do. Keep it down to three sentences or less.
  3. People who roll skill checks when I didn't ask them too (because I probably would let you do it without needing a roll)
  4. People who make attack rolls that suck, then think I am not watching and roll again. Unfortunately for them I have no problem calling out that BS by asking what they rolled the first time.
  5. Dungeon vermin. I mean really...no one should have to fight giant crickets it's even more lame than #1.
  6. Boxed text in a moduleles that are more than a few sentences. Seriously, every time I read a room description, or boxed text from a module people's eyes glaze over and they stop paying attention. So I stopped doing it.
  7. People who have been playing for years but still haven't figured out which dice are which. After 10 years of playing you no longer get a free pass. Just keep rolling the d12 every time you make an attack, I feel no obligation to point it out.
  8. Point buy systems for character building. Absolutely hate it, people should roll 3d6 in order as nature intended.
  9. Elves
  10. Any game that takes an hour or more to make a character or has dice pools. I won't run either type any more.
