Week 13 - Barcan goes boom!

I am having much fun with Encounters, enough at least to distract me from trying to blog each week. Digging deep into the memory banks we travel back in time to a week that finds our heroes on one side of a chasm with the big bad guys on the other side. A small chunk of cliff side has fallen to create a walk way between the two sides. As a squishy caster I was more than happy to stand back and lob spells over at the monsters. Our defenders had another problem. The punchline would be "to get the other side of the chasm". We also knew that we were in for another level of fun when our DM Jeff asked for the specific path each person was taking. Uh oh, landmines.

Turned out that there were two bad squares on that bridge, and we managed to find them both. To make things even more interesting, the landmine zapped you for 5 damage then you rolled a d20 to see if it would spread to adjacent squares. We failed our initial rolls and soon the whole bridge tingled with electric energy. This presented a very tough choice for our fighter Yuka. Stay back and do nothing but live or charge forward and try to do your job but probably die on the way. Dutifully he charged forward and cleared a path on the bridge with a series of successful rolls and a bunch of hurt.

Our tactics changed once the bridge lit up light a Christmas tree. Barcan and I hatched a devious plan to use of special Veiled Alliance ability which can be bumped up to include a slide the target one square feature. We yanked one off the cliff side and Yuka managed to push one over the side. Then came the jaw dropping moment where each and every critter lifted into the air and flew the other side. Yuka put his head in his hands. He worked hard to get across the bridge to see his prey take flight to the side he just came from.

Our last moment of drama came and we finished off the last Gith. Phye, who happens to be Barcan's sister in this story, stabbed at the last mob and finished him off. Problem is that mob exploded, and he knocked Barcan unconscious just before dying. Poor Barcan hit the death threshold of negative his bloodied value and expired. Apparently the story left out some back story of their sibling rivalry.
