Week 8 - Two crystal golems walk into a bar...

Rate this Entry
Wednesday means encounters, a day I can hardly wait for. Off to the local gaming store and time to sit down and roll away. This week we had a full house and short a couple of DMs. The staff shuffled around well and got a player from the previous session to DM on the fly for us. The back story suffered a little, but we found ourselves in an antiquated tomb covered in ruins of a long dead language. Two unlit braziers to one side were offset by two stone tables with mummy like corpses on the other side with the only exit a locked iron gate. But of course our ranger lit a brazier and the things on the tables animated to life.

These baddies were big old meat bags worth of hit points with a nasty area attack that left victims dazed. The first golem got most of us and we engaged in a very WWI type of fight with entrenched positions and little movement. We couldn't move mostly because we all rolled really lousy when it came to saving out of the daze effect. That poor rolling led to us not finding the ceiling based dart traps until round three. Somewhere in the fourth of fifth round we stumbled onto a way to distract the golems by kicking some clay idols found about the room on the ground.

We managed to hold our own quite well, despite some bad rolls early when we were burning through our encounter and daily powers. The only party member to fall was the fighter Yuka who took the brunt of the golems attacks. He amazingly rolled a 20 on his first death save and came back to life just as we were wrapping up the fight. Another stroke of good luck was not finding another dart trap trigger plate for the rest of the fight. Our reward for conquering the golems was a key to open the iron door, next week's destination of choice, and some gems buried amongst the clay relics rubble.

Blog note: A little short this week, Mother Nature sent some extra electricity my way and fried my cable modem, router, network card, TV, Wii, and a cordless phone set. So I have been slightly distracted with dealing with that unexpected project. Remember to use those coax cable jacks on your UPS and surge protectors, if you don't you'll be sorry!
