Hunting for Hides

So we're off! Donn (my stepson's character) has found a baby rage drake which was being used for some sort of weird ritual in a catacomb outside of town. He also found his father, who looked to be in the thrall of a mysterious elvish looking bloke. He went back to town and asked the local wizard (Nimozaran the Green) what could be done for his father. The simple answer was find whoever spelled him and have them break it. Otherwise his father will be a vegetable (not a turnip as everyone kept asking when Donn said "My dad's a vegetable) forever.
Donn went about setting his dad up with a local caretaker (at a cool 10GP a month. Donn's got bills to pay already!) and started training the drake on how to hunt and stalk in the wilderness (any suggestions on what to use as a mini for the drake would be great. I'm looking online, but rage drakes can cost. We ended up using a couple of red lego blocks as an avatar in the meanwhile)
When Donn returns to town he meets up with Serim Saluzar (the Tiefling at the Nentir Inn) to give him back the notebook he retrieved. Donn had asked Nimozaran to take a look at it, but he could not determine anything particularly evil about the book other than the fact that it had a warding spell on it.
Serim advises Donn that if he would like to make some extra cash he should speak to Teldorthan, the dwarf blacksmith, about a missing shipment. Donn finds the smith....at his smithy....and is told of a raid on a shipment from Winterhaven a week or so ago. He says it's Kobolds! (I used the "Kobold Hall" adventure at the back of the DM's guide for this one. It was simple enough to run, all I had to do was give Donn a few "helpers" to get through the crawl). He says if Donn can retrieve a piece of green dragon hide that was meant for his shop then there would be a substantial reward for its return.
Donn heads back to Serim to tell him about the task and Serim advises that he can help a bit. He knows a fellow who has scouted the Hall and will be very helpful to Donn. He also suggests that Donn find a magic user of some sort because he's not entirely sure what lurks down in those warrens.
Donn goes in search of Nimozaran, but the old wizard is out of town. However, his young apprentice, Tobolar Quickfoot (halfling) is eager for adventure! He's a little timid and stutters, but he's the only thing close to a wizard Donn can find.
The next day Donn meets Tobolar at the east gates (the halfling looks like he's been waiting for hours, eager to get started). Just before they decide to head out, the mysterious helper Serim sent shows up.
The Slide is a rogue of some level which is much higher than Donn's. Tobolar is a level 3 or so wizard. I gave them both a couple of encounter powers. Mostly the wizard. I gave him an AC buff, a blinding spell (which he never hit until the end), and expeditious retreat for a daily. The Slide had such great attack rolls that I didn't even do anything special for him until the end when he used a Quick Shot daily power (3W damage).
The group went through the hall, laying waste to whatever they encountered. Donn found out quickly that his drake (Klin by name) only has 2 healing surges a day and isn't exactly the brute he thought he might be (yet). The kobolds running the joint (there were a couple of different clans within the Hall) had a red claw on their armor/scraggily tunics, much like the glowing claw sigil on the floor of the catacomb where Donn found Klin. They made it to the end, where they defeated a white dragon who was hoarding the stolen shipment along with some other choice goodies. No death saves were made, though a second wind was needed and Donn wisely backed away from the dragon!
Donn also made a lifelong friend in Tobolar when he talked The Slide into letting the wizard have a +1 staff-of-the-mage. After some back and forth The Slide gave the staff over on the condition that the halfling didn't take any other treasure. Tobolar would have been fine with this, but my stepson insisted that Donn split his treasure and give half to the wizard. There wasn't much to split since The Slide took most of the treasure as he pretty much dealt the killing blow on almost every creature except for the dragon (the halfling killed it with a magic missle! lol). I thought that was pretty cool of him. Now that I think about it, I'm going to give him an extra 50 XP for the kind gesture.
Next time, Donn gets his first taste of life on the streets of Fallcrest when he has a run in with the River Rats gang!
