I learned that there is an active group of AD&D players just outside the village where I live in south central Kalamazoo County, MI. They played in my Sunday session of AD&D with The Village of Hommlet.

I played in my first session of DCC on Friday night, when no one signed up for my Hommlet session. It was a load of fun.

Saturday a bunch of other GMs signed up for my Saturday session of Hommlet, so I ran my first convention game. It was a blast and it was a hoot to see what this group of experienced players did.

I played in the Saturday session of DCC with the same GM and most of the same players as Friday night, and we again had a blast.

Roy Snyder, who ran a booth at the con also organized the OSR track. He has an every other Sunday game in Kalamazoo.

It is nice to know that there are other players and games going that are not looking for Pathfinder or some other game I have never heard of or played. ]]>

I supported the ACKS (Adventurer, Conquerer, King) Kickstarter because it sounded like the kind of thing I always wanted the games I played in to be.

I have not read my softcover rules, but have had them set aside in a safe place until time and circumstances permit reading them.

I have done some review of the PDF form of the rules and followed some of the online discussion on the website.

I'm not into multiple gaming systems like when I was younger. I don't have the time and desire to immerse myself in multiple rule systems and genres. While I am a science fiction fan, I find that I am most at home in a fantasy framework. I have played D&D & AD&D since 1978, to me those rules are familiar and make the most sense.

Since ACKS is a retro-clone, it may be something I can fall back on, since AD&D rules are getting harder to come by legal copies (local game store) or are expensive (Gygax Memorial Re-prints). There are other retro-clones of AD&D that have free rules in PDF, such as OSRIC or L&L.

I'll have to post a review of ACKS once I finally dig in and get through it. ]]>

This is coming up to my busiest time of year for work. I am trying to sell my house to move back to where my siblings and their families live, and we grew up, nearly 600 miles from here. I will have lots of opportunity to play as player or GM once I move. I plan to play with my sons over Christmas break. If anyone lives near Kalamazoo and wants to play AD&D or Old School/clones, let me know. ]]> Fasbold http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1460-Taking-the-Plunge
