Its been a busy week, since spring term is in full swing now I have to get into that groove of doing homework and taking quizzes. Once I've got my cycle down I have no problem with the workload.

On the gaming side, I'm GM'ing a W:tF game on the boards here titled 'A Den of Rage'. Still in recruitment phase, but getting there. Locally, my House Games group is entertaining as always. Since we hot-potato the GM duties, I've been writing up some new weaponry/gadgets for one of the PC's in our group. One of my PC's is a billionaire industrialist whose concept is Tony Stark, so I build weapons and things for the other PC's. I've recently started a new PC with the concept of Aristocratic Fencer, who happens to be Spanish.

Pet Peeve of the week : Facebook games. These are not real games in any sense of the word. But the 'casual' gaming market has been taking off in the past few years. Might not be a bad idea to get in on this craze while it lasts. ]]>

Writing and stuff http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1100-Writing-and-stuff Fri, 09 Apr 2010 04:19:31 GMT Because I'm taking a writing class right now I really don't feel like posting much. I hate that. I have to write an essay a week plus the 3 graded essays for the class itself. Blargh. Teach says to mix up the sentence structure a bit to make things more exciting. I say, bah! It seems I'm doing alright so far. The teacher has responded to my discussion posts on our website saying that my style is 'superior' so I guess that's a good thing? It may or may not be. He might have higher expectations of me now and that just won't do at all. Considering the online beatdown he gave someone else for their post because it didn't meet the technical requirements of posting on our class website (200 word minimum for discussion posts, replies don't count).

Math is annoying in that I have to plug everything into the equation editor for Word and send it all in that format to the teacher. I'd rather write it out and scan it than use EE.

Operating Systems (Vista) class is going fine. No problems thus far. Easy monies. ]]>

Spring Term http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1097-Spring-Term Tue, 06 Apr 2010 01:05:26 GMT Well, spring term started last week and now I'm taking another writing class, which is annoying cause I have to figure out grammar again and I hate doing that(run on sentence anybody?). Our class focus will be Alternative Media, our first essay is to choose a topic from the Infowars website and read an article on there we find interesting a couple of time then lay down our thoughts about it. In order to quote facts, we need to find a second article from another site talking about the same subject. Simple, no? Well its annoying. I have to first figure out which of these rambling fool articles I'm most interested in(Biometrics and Police states are looking juicy) and then I have to put down my opinions and back them up with evidence from other articles on the subject, also linking in our class book "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" into it all. Which is, arguably and interesting book on the subject of taking over countries economically for the past few hundred years and wars are just messy by products of said manipulation.

We'll see. ]]>

Long live Saga! http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/989-Long-live-Saga! Thu, 04 Feb 2010 10:45:17 GMT It was an ordinary day, much like other days. I got up, showered, shaved, brushed my teeth and walked into the kitchen to brew some espresso. Naturally, I switch on my laptop and go skimming my usual news sites(mostly gaming related, hee), everything seemed normal enough, so I glanced over at the espresso machine and began to make my way over there when something caught my eye. It was a news item about Star Wars Saga Edition. I stopped, went back to my laptop and clicked it open.

......

Well shiest, WotC's decided to release the Star Wars License from Lucas. A range of emotions rippled through me. From sadness, to rage, to...well everything.

It also happened to be my birthday....Great news to get on your bday.

At least I've been able to secure a copy of Starships, a friend had graciously hidden a copy for my present. I thank ye. Now, I'll have to try and find a copy of Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide. Since it's OOP, its going to be difficult to get my hands on. I've got feelers out at used book places locally, but no hits yet. It's the only hard to get book other than Starships right now, so I want to secure it as soon as possible and not have to pay 120-200 dollars on amazon(WTH, sellers? Gouge much? I'll kill you all!). Jackals.

Sadly, this turn of events means that SE will lose some players just because of natural attrition due to the perception that a system is 'dead'.

Most players, however, are not so short sighted. We have a complete system, with the release of Unexplored Regions in May. And any bugs in the system can be corrected with House rules. The final errata will be released soon as well.

Well, Saga is dead, long live Saga! ]]>

Darker than Black http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/930-Darker-than-Black Thu, 14 Jan 2010 11:40:38 GMT Just finished watching Season One of Darker than Black and I've gotta say I might have a new favorite anime here.

The story is set in the near future where a secret group of people known as contractors run around behind the scenes and the general public have no idea they exist. The governments, of course, do know they exist and exploit their special abilities.

These abilities come at a cost, known as Renumeration. Say a contractor uses his/her ability, whatever it may be, afterwards, they have to perform a renumeration to 'pay' for the use of their power. BK-201, aka The Black Reaper has to eat alot of food after using his Electrokinesis ability. Another contractor, Wei, has to cut himself and draw blood after using his ability.

The night sky is completely different and the stars are no longer 'stars' as we know them. A Hell's Gate appeared in Tokyo, and A Heaven's Gate appeared in South America in the exact opposite parts of the world. After this event, contractors appeared. No longer human, contractors have supernatural abilities and are used by the powers-that-be for their own benefit. The stars each represent a contractor and certain groups track the stars to see if they become active and give them new Messier names such as BK-201. When a contractor dies, a star falls from the sky.

A group known as Pandora built a wall around Hell's Gate and is currently doing research on the Gate phenomenon. They are militaristic and very powerful.

The Syndicate is the power that controls nearly every aspect of life, and nobody knows they exist. The Black Reaper and his crew are used by the Syndicate throughout the series.

Dolls are emotionless people who have the ability to send out 'observer spirits' through certain mediums such as water or electricity. Their powers can be amplified in various ways.

The first season introduces the main characters and supporting characters and leads us on a romp through a world gone mad. Criminal contractors abound and the regular police force can't handle them. Enter the Public Safety Bureau which knows of the existance of contractors and endeavors to stop the criminal ones.

As the story progresses, we find out more about Black Reaper and his crew, a cat named Mao(contractor), Yin(Doll), and Huang(Human Syndicate). There are several supporting cast members that play minor comic relief roles as well as a love interest or two.

One of the best anime's I've seen in a long while. Pick it up or watch the entire first season on Hulu! ]]>

Star Wars Saga Edition Books http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/903-Star-Wars-Saga-Edition-Books Fri, 25 Dec 2009 07:57:30 GMT You know, it's interesting. I got the Saga Edition Core Rulebook on order and was looking at Starships of the Galaxy and Knights of the Old Republic and they're sold out everywhere. Wherever I look and find them new(Amazon, etc)They are over 80 dollars. Vultures? Now, perhaps I can find them in-store, but still, I like to shop online and its just annoying when 'rare' items such as these(They have no right being this hard to get)start costing so much.

Blah. Screw im' anyways. Just gonna wait for them to get back into stock at normal prices. Yeeech. ]]>

Fall Term Complete http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/877-Fall-Term-Complete Fri, 11 Dec 2009 03:59:35 GMT Well tonight's final ends the Fall Term for me. Looking forward to a few weeks of rest.

Got some personal projects to work on, as well as catch up on some freelance work so I can afford xmas presents :D

Looks like it'll be a gaming extravaganza for the next few weeks. Gonna burn my eyes out on some vid games and melt my brain with tabletop stuff as well.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, I'm tracked for 'A's in all my classes. Because I'm a damn genius.

I'm probably gonna hit up some local diners I keep hearing about, of course if you know of anything decent in the Portland, OR area or near abouts drop me a line and I'll check it out. Gods know I have the time now. ]]>

Star Wars : The Force Unleashed, Ultimate Sith Edition PC http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/874-Star-Wars-The-Force-Unleashed-Ultimate-Sith-Edition-PC Wed, 09 Dec 2009 20:00:03 GMT The Force Unleashed : Ultimate Sith Edition for the PC. The graphics are spectacular, but that's to be expected because this is basically a port of the XBox 360 version. There are some performance issues that I should note, I had to reduce resolution(I don't mind all that much as long as it runs smooth)due to the hefty demands this game makes on a dual core system. Granted, I play on a laptop, but its all I gots for now and I'm not looking to build a desktop right now. The system specs for the game list a Dual Core 2.4 Ghz as minimum. I respectfully disagree. I wouldn't play this on anything less than a 2.8 Ghz Quad Core(assuming the extra cores even help). When it does run smooth its a great game, the storyline is decent(par for Lucasarts, nothing special) though some fans may have issue with it. The QTE's(Quick Time Events)for the boss battles when you've weakened them for the kill shot are a little annoying as you have to pay attention to the button flashed up on the screen in order to hit it right instead of watching the take-down, but I'm a JRPG player(Shenmue anyone?)so I'm more used to QTE's than alot of western players. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars, it would have gotten 5 stars, but there wasn't any improvement over the console versions, even the extras are included in the console versions as DLCs. Meh. Better than most Star Wars games at least. Gods know we've gotten alot of stinkers in the past. Oh, and if you've played it already on the console, don't buy it, not worth the admission price.

P.S. The Star Destroyer mission is still annoying as hell, its even worse with a mouse!

Edit: Price at amazon is 33.43 or so. Not too bad. Starkiller is wearing the Sith Hunter Armor Suit. An upgraded Vader suit. The 1.1 Patch adds a Detail Option for lower end machines. There ya go.

<![CDATA[Freelance/House Games/Life & The Weather]]> http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/872-Freelance-House-Games-Life-amp-The-Weather Wed, 09 Dec 2009 11:49:11 GMT Damn typo's in my last post. Ah well. So I just finished another gig that netted me around 500 bucks. Most of which goes to various bills. At least that takes care of all my bills this month, and early on too. I'm bidding on a few open projects that are smaller, so's I can has spending cash.

It's finals week. Blargh. Finished with two of three finals. Last one is tomorrow night. Business 101 final. So far, the exams haven't been too bad in this class, just freakin' long. I hate 100 question exams no matter how easy or hard they are. I'm tracking for an A in all my classes, so this is the final run for me. Then its judgment day. Hoping for a 4.0.

Outside of all this, my House Games group may be getting a fresh infusion of vic.....I mean, players either this weekend or next depending on how fast the responses come. It's getting rather crazy cold these winter nights so I'm concerned about travel conditions for our players(and myself, natch). We are due to have freezing rain here soon. That's generally not a problem, if you have all-season tires, you're fine as long as you drive carefully and are fully aware of your car's handling.

It's rather early in the morning right now. I woke up about an hour or so ago and I can't get back to sleep right away. I hate that. Plus my cat will bother me right when I doze off too.

Signing off.

Currently Playing : Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Ultimate Sith Edition on PC :D ]]>

Damn it all..... http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/866-Damn-it-all Sun, 06 Dec 2009 10:41:25 GMT So I've been playing a few MUD's lately. Namely, Awakened Worlds and Dark Forces. In general, I find MUDs fun, but annoying. The most annoying part is finding stuff to do other than grind away my life. Awakened Worlds offers easy access to runs but so far in Dark Forces, all I've been able to do is wander around an kill small stuff all the while waiting for something interesting to happen. Granted, if I'm new to a system it'll naturally have a learning curve, but Dark Forces doesn't even seem to have a forums to post on. OOC chat is a good alternative, but still, maybe somebody's already asked the question and I can just look up the post without bothing somebody that knows the answer.

That being said, both MUD's are great fun and I recommend them to fans definitely, and newcomers alike. Just be sure you're ready to sink some decent time into these games.

Cheers! ]]>
