My players in my RL group have been rolling stats for their chars 5d6 keep highest 4 since it's a high power campaign. That makes the highest number you can get with a stat before racial ads 24 obviously. We have a barbarian with starting STR 28 after racial, and a Ranger with starting 22 in dex and Weapon Finesse as the first feat. We don't even have 14 as a low stat except maybe Charisma.
