I'll just add that GURPS Lite is truly the essence of GURPS, and a perfectly playable game in and of itself. The main GURPS books add:


More advantages and disadvantages, especially to represent non-human, magical, and/or super-powered characters.

More skills, again for specialized situations.

More detailed (optional) combat rules, including movement on a hex map, hit locations, and aerial combat.

Notes on GMing GURPS.

A default game setting, where PCs travel among alternate histories fighting rival agents who want to conquer the multiverse.

There's also GURPS Ultralite (http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=SJG37-0032), also available free. It condenses the game even smaller, into something that fits in your shirt pocket - although it is even more distilled than Lite is, and as such has a much bigger variation when compared to the full version. I like to print them out and leave them sitting around like tracts. heheheheheheh
