Quantum uncertainty was codified by Heisenberg when he proposed the uncertainty principle, that is, the concept that you cannot know both the exact velocity and the position of an electron at the same time. Nor can you know its exact energy, measured over a given amount of time. At the quantum level all the basic laws of common sense are violated: electrons can disappear and reappear elsewhere, and electrons can be in many places at the same time.

With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;

In 1953 Stanley Miller and Harold Urey took a solution of ammonia, methane, and other toxic chemicals that they believed were found in the early Earth, put it in a flask, exposed it to a small electrical current, and waited. Within one week they could see evidence of amino acids forming in the flask. The electrical current was sufficient to break apart the carbon bonds within the ammonia and methane and then rearrange the atoms into amino acids, the precursors of proteins. Proving that in some sense, life can form spontaneously as a natural by-product of carbon chemistry. Since then, amino acids have been found inside meteorites and also in gas clouds in deep space.

If King Kong really existed, he would not be able to terrorize New York City. On the contrary, his legs would break as soon as he took a single step. This is because if you take an ape and increase his size by 100 times, then his weight would go up by the increased volume, or by 10X10X10 = 1000 times. So he would be 1000 times heavier. But his strength increases relative to the thickness of his bones and muscles. The cross-sectional area of his bones and muscles goes up by only a square of the distance, that is, by 10X10 = 100 times. In other words, if King Kong were 10 times bigger, he would only be 100 times stronger, but he would weigh 1000 times more. Thus the ape's weight increases much more rapidly than its strength as his size increases. He would be, relatively speaking, 10 times weaker than a normal ape. And that is why his legs would break.

In the novel Janus Equation, a brilliant mathematician whose goal is to discover the secret of time travel meets a strange, beautiful woman, and they become lovers, although he knows nothing about her past. He becomes intrigued about finding out her true identity. Eventually he discovers that she once had plastic surgery to change her features. And that she had a sex change operation. Finally, he discovers that "she" is actually a time traveler from the future, and that "she" is actually himself, but from the future. This means that he made love to himself. And one is left wondering, what would have happened if they had had a child? And if this child went back into the past, to grow up to become the mathematician at the beginning of the story, then is it possible to be your own mother and father and son and daughter?

I don't think I would like a scout job at all. Too much time away from things I care about going into places where literally %0 of my safety is guaranteed.

On the other hand however space travel would be nice...

I ran into a test one day that I can't remember much of but one of the questions asked something along the lines of...

Mankind has developed space travel and you are selected among a few others to be the first sent into the abyss. There are 2 main methods. One involves you on a space shuttle flying up there with 50-50% chance of survival. The other is a safe little pod that downloads all your memories and transmits them to the other side in a clone of you. The original you will essentially be dead, but it's a guaranteed thing. Which path do you take?

The actual test had a third option I can't remember but I do remember thinking who the hell would kill themselves so a clone of them can live on? It's not you. Your family and friends will know it's not you...If someone I knew did it I know that all I would be able to think of is that they're just a copy, and the original is gone forever. It stole my train of through from the rest of the test and the rest of that day. I would take the shuttle and probably flip a coin the whole time counting heads or tails until we either died or I got off and found a change of pants...

Re: the test you speak of. It is somewhat similar to a really cool set of threads i will be initiating soon, so keep a lookout. I call them "Man Questions," of something similar, depending. They are a lot of fun to think about and they encourage some real soul-searching before responding. Stay tuned!

I love mixing WFRP I & II.

I also love mixing Gamma World GGW & Traveller CT.

The darker and grittier, the better.

The secret to making horror work: characters knowing that wrong moves can very easily lead to their demise.

Stephen King (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/): Actually, I'm taking a break from horror for the time being.

Stephen King (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/): At the moment I'm working on a biography of Benjamin Franklin. He was a fascinating man who discovered electricity, and used it to torture children and green mountain men. And that key he tied to a kite - it opened the gates to HELL.
Marge (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001413/): Well, when you go back to horror will you let me know?
Stephen King (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/): Will do.
