D&D Culture Question (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061121x&dcmp=ILC-RSSDND)

This time, we wanted to find out a little about your playing style -- not just about the game itself, but the setting you want to achieve for when you play. As part of this setting, is music a fundamental component?

I personally think they are missing an option or two in that poll. During our games, we queue up quite a bit of fantasy oriented soundtracks, like Lord of the Rings. The music tracks on some of the game CDs work very nicely too, like Warcraft and Everquest II, for instance. And, in my never to be humble opinion, Mortal Combat is a must for the intense fighting scenes. Fields of Wheat from Gladiator can go a long way to setting the mood for situations that seem impossible.

I think that music is an excellent ambience tool. I'm a huge fan of Conan's soundtrack for battle and traveling music.

Yes, definitely missing an option or two. I too play the fantasy soundtracks and even some soundtracks to some video games. Baulders Gate, song 1, is fantastic, to name just one.

Even having the movie The Thing, from 1982, playing in another room, gives a good frightening vibe when playing DnD.

Sigh: No music, I'm too deaf to have music and still hear the players.
