I got this as a gift and now I can't find it in all my D&D stuff. Worst part is, I can't even find it online anywhere. From what I remember, it was Basic D&D (where the demi-humans races are also classes), and it had an adventure that took place below the town the characters live in. Can't remember much else.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Actually, no. But i will be keeping an eye on this thread to see what you speak of. You got me curious.

This is what came to mind at first thought (http://www.amazon.com/Basic-Game-Dungeon-Dragons-Roleplaying/dp/0786934093/ref=pd_sim_b_4), and there was one that was not updated to 3.5 back around the time you indicated (I think). Any chance I'm close?

I don't think so, since you refer to basic D&D concepts of race as class, but one never knows. :)

Huzzah! You refer to this do you not (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0786914505/ref=nosim/waynesworldof-20)?

I don't think that's the one ChaunceyK is referring to because I used to own that one. It was built on a simplified AD&D 2e and, as I recall, the character templates were not broken down into "race-classes" the way Basic D&D was.

There were at least a handful of introductory box sets that were released around that time, but I don't recall any that I ever read that used Basic. Since 2e was the game at that time, most of the sets tried to introduce those rules...until 3e came out in late 2000.

This was also what first came to my mind as well. The second link you posted i seem to vaguely recall, even though i dont remember why i didnt pick it up way back then(memories flooding back), i think i may just have to pick up a copy.

There were definitely no miniatures with it, so its not this one...

This one could be it, but I can't remember for certain based just on the box cover. The reviews, unfortunately, don't tell me alot about the contents (such as the adventure)...

I'm gonna keep looking through my stuff & see if I can find it. I had gotten it toward the tail-end of my first marriage, which was not a happy time for me, so I basically rebelled against anything reminding me of that time period for awhile...which means that if I still have it, I haven't looked at it since then.

I think I know what you're talking about. It was the "DUNGEONS & DRAGONS" boxed set that came out around the same time as a D&D board game that had minis. It was a push to get younger & new players turned on to RPG, back when TSR had like 15 different campaign worlds for AD&D...

I'll see if I can find a link...

Sounds like that could be it. It was a very simple box set, not like a huge collection or anything. And I remember seeing it on the shelf at Toys R Us. The creatures that lived under the "hometown" were 3-foot tall humanoids, reptilian I think.
