It's been a long time since I first joined this forum and I can't say that I have been a very active member either. I thought I would post here though about the charity event being put together by the Portland Dungeons and Dragons meetup group http://dnd.meetup.com/820. (http://dnd.meetup.com/820)

On December 13th, with the help of Guardian Games, we will be running an all day fundraiser to benefit SMART (start making a reader today). We are going to be running games throughout the day (Guardian is letting us take up 2/3's of the store's gaming space to run the games). If anyone is interested in running a game, or simply showing up to play in one, you can contact me for more details. So far we have the following games scheduled.

10am - Noon on Table 1 Villains & Vigilantes
Noon - 4pm on Table 1 Star Wars saga edition
7pm - 10pm Tables 1-3 a 4th edition Gladiator tournament.

I tried to look at your link, but it wouldn't let me view the thread. Is it a fundraiser of some sort?

Yes we are holding a fundraiser, we had to close our forum to non-members due to trouble with a few ex-members unfortunately. Membership is free however and all you have to do is fill out a profile to be accepted into the forum. An organizer does have to approve the membership before you can post or view the messages though.

How does the fundraiser work? Is there a fee for participating in a game?

There will be a minimum donation of $1 in order to game. There will be a hand stamp for people who have donated.

Sounds interesting. I'll plan to drop by.

Just wanted to update everyone on the charity event. A lot has been happening. We will be holding a raffle during the event with several prizes. At this point WoTC, White Wolf, and Indie Press Revolution have all committed to sending us swag for the raffle. No I don't have any idea just what they are sending unfortunately.

We have 6 full tables of games scheduled so far, the schedule can be downloaded at http://files.meetup.com/286103/schedule2008.pdf (http://files.meetup.com/286103/schedule2008.pdf)
The schedule is, of course, still subject to change. We do have some room left in the schedule for additional games if anyone is interested in running one. Doors will open at 10am and the games will start at 10:30pm, game seating is first come first served and you must donate and get your handstamp before sitting down to a game so come a little earlier than the game you want into is scheduled to start. We are now asking for a suggested $5 minimum donation, however we will take any amount your comfortable with.

The Portland D&D meetup was closed to new members without approval but has been re-opened, we feel that the trouble we had previously is far enough in the past that we are once again opening the doors to any and all.

Hmm. I'm not into Wizards, but Indie Press Revolution is interesting.

I'm looking forward to it. See you there.

By the way, here's a map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=303+SE+3rd+Ave+Portland+OR&sll=45.520756,-122.662771&sspn=0.010404,0.019312&ie=UTF8&g=303+SE+3rd+Ave+Portland+OR&z=16&iwloc=addr) to Guardian Games (http://www.guardiangamesportland.com).

I added it to the calendar (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-12-13&e=3257&c=1) so people can RSVP, though it's not required.

The game day was a lot of fun. I played Villains & Vigilantes and HarnMaster, and enjoyed both. I would have played in the Call of Cthulhu session as well, but I had to cut out early.

Thanks for posting the information, Drosta; otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.
