I was wondering if there is a system somewhere online where one could learn about converting 3rd edition characters to 1st edition. I don't know enough about the 3rd edition to make a fair guess myself.

I don't remember ever seeing anything like that but the internet is far wider than I can possibly range. If you can't find a good resource and really are in a pinch I remember seeing guides that would convert characters from first edition to second, and then second to third (each at their proper transitionary point). You could try to find those and work in reverse perhaps?

Figure out what the average rolls are in 1st edition and 3rd edition. Then adjust accordingly. If you rolled better or worse than average in 3rd edition on a certain stat or stats, then adjust accordingly.
I dont believe ive seen it done on the internet, but it shouldnt be too hard. Whatever you decide will be the right decision in your game.

there is a conversion book from 2nd ed to 3rd ed. just use it backwards. then you'll have to find a way to compare the 1st and 2nd ed rules to adjust from there. maybe you'll get lucky in an online search for a 1st to 2nd conversion book.
