Hey all,
I have returned from Indianapolis having had a superlative Gencon. What a weekend! A few observations:
1) Pathfinder Beta print edition sold out by Friday. It was definitely the buzz of the con. You can download the PDF version and web enhancement for FREE! (http://paizo.com/store/downloads/pathfinderRPG/v5748btpy84o0)
2) Played an experimental freeform LARP imported from England called 'A Time for Madness' run by Wild Deluzions. A great time was had by all.
3) Ran four sessions of Goodman Game's Dungeon Crawl Classic Open Tournament. Had one team advance to round two. Had one total party kill. Great brutal dungeon crawly fun.
4) Picked up a copy of 'Monsters and Other Childish Things' by Arc Dream Publishing (http://www.arcdream.com/). I haven't laughed that hard reading an RPG since I first read Paranoia.
5) Played a round of giant 3-D Seafarers of Catan. Had pants beaten by 14 year old. Damn you Seber!
6) If I learned one thing about D&D editions wars -- it is over blown. I played in a Paizo Pathfinder game with the Paizo faithful. I talked to dozens of them while waiting in line. Their reaction to D&D 4th edition -- maybe not their favorite but it had a few good ideas. Most of them owned it. All of them had at least perused it.
I also ran a 4th edition tournament with hard core D&D or nothing players. More than one had a copy of a Pathfinder fresh from the dealer's room. Some of them were excited about it even as they were playing 4th edition.
7) Claddagh. Beercon. The Pub. The Red Garter. Nick Blaine's. Linda.
There is lots more ... but that's enough for now.
Gary
