I recently heard at a gaming store that WoTC isn't going to be releasing/making any more 3.5 edition material?
Is this true?
If so, what is everyones take on it?

Seems logical to me. They are releasing 4e material now. With the plethora of 3.5 material out there as well as an open license I doubt it much matters.

WotC is just like many big corps, no longer supporting their old products, or their old customers. They need to make money and this is their way. You have all you're going to get from them so you're on your own from now on, unless you buckle under and buy into their new products.
When they did that to me last time I abandoned them like they did me and haven't regretted the decision once. Besides, gave me a chance to write my own material and the players seem to enjoy the break.

ya the guy i talked to said that he got his stuff from two different distributers and that they hadn't and probably weren't going to send any of there stuff back. So he will still have 3.5 for a while and also has a fair collection of first and second edition books. Many of which are in very nice condition. The place is called Attatix in Aurora. (mrken have you heard of it?)

Yeah, I give a good deal of money to Bill to support his family. lol We have been going there so long we are now family friends of them and his wife and step kids. Take my daughter up there to hang out with his step son. And Tammy is also a personal friend of ours. Also am trying to hook up with the AAM club on the second Saturday to play with little tanks. lol

Ya Bill is a great guy. Today was only the second time that i've been in there, (just recently heard of them) and sometime earlier today some one had brought in a HUGE tub of minitures and Bill stoped what he was doind andsat down with us and helped us sift through the minitures to find a halfling fighter and a gnome druid. after about fifteen minutes we found a suitable halfling but only found a gnome like character who was wearing armor. Bill then offered to repaint the mini to look more like druid. and it did. it was perfect. then the big socker. . . He gave us both minitures for free. and offered to let us trade some of our minitures for store credit.
So i will definately be a frequent shopper there. Anyone in the Aurora area should check them out!

Yep, that's Bill alright. He gave me the horse and wagon for my campaign when I was having a problem. That's why I keep giving him so much money. I am trying to keep him in business. lol
Hey, next time you stop at Attactix, you should come by. I live just down the street and hang a right.

3E isn't dead until my books burn down in a house fire. And every used books store runs out of replacement books.
Since Wizards' #1 goal is to make money, they'll go back to 3E if that's what the market demands. I, for one, will hold out.

It's a shame if it's true, but it also makes good business sense. I don't like that fact, especially since I'm still in the market for 3.5e materials. Oh well, I'll just have to try to develop my own stuff (for once).

WotC's act of no longer supporting 3.5e is absolutely no surprise at all. They want to promote their core product, which is 4.x, and 3.5 is not a competeting product to their core. So, of corse they will not support it. Doesn't make me happy.
Actually, I'm STILL quite miffed at their sudden dropping of support of my favorite product, Alternity. Why did they drop it? Because it competed with Star Wars d20. So they said "To hell with the fans of the product" and just stopped all production, and even stopped books that near finishing of production.

they wil be releasing 3.5 material until the PfRPG releases august '09, and even then it'll be mostly backward compatible. i just ordered about $300 worht of their stuff, includingtheir golarion campaign setting, and it was money well spend. good quality stuff being produced there. OGL lives, it just doesn't live at WotC headquarters any more...

I, too, miss Alternity. It lived such a short life.

What's Alternity? I looked it up on Wikipedia, but it didn't offer much explanation as to what made it a system to be missed?
Also, I still don't like having my favorite product pulled out from under me. Alas, what am I to do? Sue WotC for not listening to one (apparently outdated, now) fan? :(

:focus: It's still not surprising, all previous editions of most game systems I know have been abandoned when their new version came out. It is just that more material for 3.5w was released than the previous versions. I'm not 100% but my bookshelf of 2e stuff is a LOT less than my 3e stuff, then again, I think I may have more Basic D&D material than 2e.

Of course they won't be making any more 3.x edition stuff. Just like Nintendo doesn't still put out super nintendo cartridges. It still shouldn't be a problem to find 3.x edition stuff though. I still see 2nd edition stuff for sale and sometimes even 1st ed. There are even still a lot of online groups and sites dedicated to 2nd edition from people who never moved up to 3rd edition. So I have no doubt that those who choose to still play 3rd edition will be able to find material or group and sites to share new ideas.

Fact: WotC will not be producing any more 3.5E books.
Grape Vine: My local gaming store told my that all their distributers are dumping 3.5E WotC books. His distributers are still carrying 3.x OGL books from other publishers.
Fact: I just dropped $100 on d20 books from Fantacy Flight Games.
Fact: That $100 did not get spent on 4E or WotC.
Fact: If I cannot get it at my local shop or BAM, there is always eBAY.

and you can still get 3.5, or technically 3.8 material from paizo publishing as they are not going to support 4e, but will continue producing 3.5.
