View Full Version : Die Roller Practice
Caligula

Here you can test out the dice roller function for your posts. Simply push the red ROLL button up above, and fill in what the die roll is. Examples would be 3d6+7, 1d4, or 1d20+6. The formula will come up then, and will look like the following, with square brackets [] instead of the other ones {}.
{ROLL="1d20"}{/ROLL}
In the section between the two bracketed groups, simply write what the actual roll is (Spot Check, Riding Check, etc.). As an example, if I were to make a Spot Check with one rank and no other modifiers, I would type 1d20+1 in the box, and then Spot Check in between the two bracketed groups.
EXAMPLE (leaving the square brackets there, it will appear as the following in the actual post):
Spot Check

Let's see if this will handle physically impossible dice
Let's see if it could roll a golf ball with numbers written in the dimples

What are you trying to roll?
Abbadon

I rolled a seven sided die (physically impossible if you use platonic solids), and I rolled a 450 sided die (golf balls have ~450 dimples).

Friday 07-25-2008, 07:45 PM
Oh now I see...the first time you were in the middle of an edit.
Wait...do you have a summer job or something? If you have the time to count the dimples on a golf ball..... nah I'm kidding. :D

Friday 07-25-2008, 07:56 PM
I checked Wikipedia. But I don't have a real summer job, although I do have to work at my grandparent's house Tuesdays and Thursdays, but even there I can get on.
I wonder how high this thing goes...

Friday 07-25-2008, 08:06 PM
Dang, I wish I had that schedule. :P
Number of sides on die goes higher than anyone needs a die to be, but the limit of actual dice rolled goes up to 19 (unless Farcaster fixed it).
Hmmm.
million sides
trillion sides
EDIT: Eh? The number of zeroes stayed the same for both in the results...

Let's try just short of a trillion
It appears that a million exactly is as high as it will go.

Just a bit of rolling/prose practice. Trying to learn how to weave the rolls more seamlessly into the post.
-----------------------------------------
Stepping out from behind the tree, Tannar looks across the scene with an eye for detail.
That orc is the greater threat, and his sidekick there, they need to go down before they can hurt the mage.
Tannar nocks the first arrow and lets fly, watching to see if it hits
watching to see if it deals lethal damage
Tannar quickly lets fly his second arrow
hoping this arrow takes the orc down
picking the second target, the flanker, Tannar looses his third arrow
hoping the damage will knock that one down too.

My own site the die roller has a different syntax, and the rolls show up like a quote but wherever you put them. So speaking or describing action, then rolls, then more action, isn't a problem. Since this one is different than what I'm used to, I just have to get used to it.

Coding, like programming? Don't care for it. To me its like having to fix the bus when I just want to drive it. I taught machine language for a particular process in the 80s, and touched some Fortran, Basic, C+ and Java. Just don't like having to do it.
But I have great respect for those that do it well.

Yep, that's about how the characters looked back in the early days of dnd. Ahhh, yes, i do miss those days.

Never did get how much $$ is available for upgrades before we hit this.
What I want is to put Holy on the bow (that should help against evil), and about a +3 on the Heavy Mace. That should be about 46,000 for both on those weapons.
Not to mention a Ring of Protection wouldn't hurt.

Well - there is 850k gp worth, and 6 players. So that's just about 141k each. Of course, one player now has half the overall amount, as nijineko grabbed two of the bags. :D
So, as long as everyone else doesn't want to spend too much, we should be good. Although - I will warn all that Lalitil will consider her requests for equipment most important, as she was one of the few that had the sense to grab a bag of coin. :p

Two out of three it is:
+3 Heavy Mace is 18,000 (with the trade in of my currenty MW Heavy Mace)
Holy on the Bow is also 18,000.
So Tannar is 'dipping' into the community chest for 36,000 to buff his weapons. The best defense is a good Offense!
Ring will be next time if we can't find one to take off a body.

Nij: Well, that is true, but the bags are magic. I can't seem to find a spell to suffice for it, so I'm just sayin that they are bigger inside than they look outside, effectively lowering the weight and size of whatever is in them. That way all they money can fit in two bags and the merchant could carry it around without looking suspicious. If someone does know of something, bring it up....spell or something?

Zane
Tuesday 10-21-2008, 01:01 AM
It's still an extradimensional space - so I would think, to that extent, it would. Or at least, it *could* - which is enough of a reason to me not to try, unless we find some NPC we don't care about...
Speaking of which, "Here Ii, come here - got a nice dark bag for you to hide in." :p
nijineko
Tuesday 10-21-2008, 02:14 AM
hah. well the reason given for the poor interaction between a bag of holding and a portable hole is that it crosses the astral and ethereal plane. which apparently causes "bad things" to happen. but it is not necessarily any extradimensional space that triggers the chain reaction.
that was one of my custom rules actually... an enchantment that could be placed on any extradimensional space type object. "nested". allows them to be taken inside of each other, but sacrifices a certain percentage of it's storage space to do so, and the effect is cumulative. sort of like kachina dolls. except for bags of holding and portable holes, which still go kaboom.
