How does someone join a campaign like this and what resources does someone need once the get started? *sorry both very noob questions and I apologise if this isnt the place to put them*

i sent you a pm with some information. your best bet in general is to look in the campaign invitation forum. this game is peculiar in that it is a closed game, and not posted in the campaign invitation forum. this is not the norm for here at pen and paper games. and posting your interest here is normally the best and correct way to go about it, so you are fine posting here. this game is set aside for particular players who are long-standing acquaintances of mine. however, i can ask if they want anyone else joining in. no promises. ^^ it may be quite a while before i get a response back from them. so hang in there. =D and good gaming in the mean time! =D

thanks no expectations on my end since I had none coming in and I did read your pm so thank you again

no problems. =D

Ok I couldnt help but bring this up nijineko, Necrite on the "sticks as traps" couldn't you look at it this way. Most spells need V and S components to work I understand but in the vein of trying to make the character you want and the unique application you want for those sticks couldnt the "act" of breaking or setting off the stick be part of the S component. For example...lets say for Fireball you need to speak the correct words and crumble sulfer between your fingers *pooof* fireball. So along that same line of thinking couldn't the final component that the spell needs to activate be the physical breaking/snapping of the rune stick?
(trying to think outside the box)

That wasn't the only problem with the concept. There were so many things not meshing right that I would have had to ask for a dozen and one house rules to tweak things in the right directions. It just wasn't coming together right, so I'll do something else.
07-18-2008, 04:46 PM
see and here I thought I was being smart :P

your concept is fine, but necrite was hoping to use this runestick idea as an alternate craft scroll feat so that he could access all spell levels, rather than an alternate brew potion feat and be limited in level. the catch is that the nature of the scroll feat is such that it still demands a verbal and somatic component to activate, making it not so useful for homemade traps. as an alternate brew potion, it works just fine, but then the level limitation kicks in. one of the system limitations.
there are some nice trap-like items in the complete arcane and complete magic... or maybe the arms and equipment book.... i recall a spike that can be pounded into a surface, and then activating it. it has few rounds delay before it becomes active whereupon it turns invisible. the next poor soul to come within sensing range triggers it. cone of cold and fireball are commonly held effects. costs just over a thousand gold a pop, which isn't bad for a full effect trap.

Hey, no you're all in a tavern when... beginning. I like it so far. Though it would have been nice to have landed in a more dignified manner.
08-22-2008, 04:57 PM
heheheh. think of it in a generic karmic fashion. ^^

Gratz on level 2, Arahira!
08-26-2008, 11:28 PM
i would like to announce that we will likely be having another player join us. this campaign was originally started for necrite and arahira, and we later welcomed elbryon and dax thura. having met the requirements set, and with permission from necrite and arahira, i just wanted to let everyone know as a courtesy. this will likely not have much immediate effect on anyone else, as he too will be scattered to the winds and have to figure out what the heck is going on, just like the rest of your characters.
the player in question is midnight. he is currently over in my anything goes 16 campaign, so feel free to wander over and read up on what he's been up to and get a feel for him. he has been following this campaign and reports being greatly entertained, so much so that he decided that he really wants to join and game with everyone here. congrats on being such excellent role-players everyone!
as a bit of background, i've known midnight for well over 10 years, i'd have to think to recall exactly how long it's been. he has been my usual dm for most of the time since i've known him, as it happens. as we have lived far away from each other for a long time, we are very familiar with remote forms of roleplaying. i find him to be a skilled dm, and a talented player. please welcome him. (once he starts posting over here, that is. ^^)

Looking forward to it

Sweet. Midnight gets to play on a ship!!
09-05-2008, 07:03 PM
just wait til you see what's coming next in your chapter! ^^
09-08-2008, 07:42 AM
Han and the ewoks, Goldilocks and the three bears, the resurrection of Jesus, and lost at sea. What's next?
09-08-2008, 04:56 PM
well, i must admit that i thought of the three bears too, but the others are complete surprises for me! ^^ i very much enjoy hearing your impressions. =D
09-13-2008, 06:08 AM
Elephants? Elephant herders?
09-14-2008, 05:01 PM

Something I was shown a while ago, and was reminded of by the haiku talk in the other thread:
Dance your cares away,
Worry's for another day.
Let the music play.
Hopefully, at least a couple of you will be able to fill in the rest. ;D
10-21-2008, 05:22 PM
down in fraggle rock! ^^
02-15-2009, 01:30 PM
Not to be too anally retentive here, but in my thread you used "shamen" and "he" in the same sentence. "Shaman" is the singular, "shamen" the plural. Should I assume it's just one?
02-15-2009, 07:53 PM
heh. i actually didn't know that it had a difference between the singular and plural form. *^^* but now that you gave me some ideas..... ;D
you'll just have find out!
05-22-2009, 04:35 PM
temporary hiatus. limited internet access, and what there is really needs to be spent job-hunting. ^^
05-23-2009, 10:46 AM
LOL.. Just as I get home and can post again. Good luck on your job hunting, I hope you don't have to move again....
05-31-2009, 02:09 AM
likewise... i'll try to get back to regular posting as soon as i can. just really need to find a job, so need to concentrate on it. ^^ but don't worry, i'm not dropping the game! the cat always comes back.

Hey guys I have never done a PBP game before and I think I am only seeing your outside of game talk. So if you could possibly give me the link to the actual game just to see whats going on that would be great. I was hoping to join you guys if you had any openings, hopefully for a paladin. I saw you guys were kinda generating your characters and their levels on this thread. but i was wondering if i could use my level 5 Pally that i have worked up to from lvl 1. but i understand its your game and i am willing to do whatever. Is this game larger percentage roleplaying and smaller percentage combat?
And for the whole contract thing would something like this work. like lets say Derek the Paladin came to be after being a lowly drunk and promised the oppurtunity of greatness if he followed a higher power of good to serve and represent his/her name?
--- Merged from Double Post ---
and im sorry if was being to forward. i guess i really just need to know if you guys had any openings and what classes would you need?
06-29-2009, 10:52 AM
the actual game started in the locked "game thread", and is continued in the threads that are stickied. none of the player's characters have run into each other yet, thus each character has their own storyline-thread. thus there are no "needed" classes. if you read through the entire "campaign announcement and parameters" thread (the one you accidentally posted in first) you will know the rules for this game.
i suggest that you read all the threads and get to know what is going on. then you can discuss with the players what is going on, and thereby get to know them a bit, and more importantly, them to get to know you, before you seek to join.

I currently play in a PBP game and administrate a web site and a forum and write my own web based software.
I'm looking for anouther group or two to try out my new web map software designed for use for play by post games.
You don't have to use my forum to use this web map software you can use it for games played on this site, however I do need to set it up for each group, so if you want to use it just PM Than at http://www.pbpmap.com (http://www.pbpmap.com/).
1) Pure web based, no installation required you just need a web browser.
2) Creating, changing and viewing the map is really easy.
3) It's free.
4) It persistently hosted so doesn't require anyones computer to be on and can be accessed 24 hours a day.
5) Several people can view and change the same map at the same time without problem.
6) It is useful in many situations and can help considerably in combat rounds.
You can try a demo of the map at
The password for the "manage maps" button in this demo map is : monkey
PM Than (i.e. me) or leave a message on my forum section if you want me to set up a web map for your PBP game and/or you want to use this forum to run your PBP game.
