If you've got a question out of character, ask it here.

How would you guys like the Dice rolling to be done/shown?

I've noticed the Roll Tag, but not sure how it works, I might try it out here, 4D4 = 4d4.

Hmmm, apparently it might not work in the first post, so I'll try again.

I might try it out here, D20 = Roderz takes a Skill Check.

edit:
when it asked for the [roll] type in your die and any modifiers like 1d20+3 or 2d8+3.

In the middle of the brackets [roll]type the emote[roll].

Works pretty well.

btw: i need to read up on the time period. I don't read any of the novels or comics really, so I may be a day or two until I know much.

For now, I'd say I'm your typical devout Padawan who may be a bit too idealistic and too into meditation exercises. Ogami pays more than average attention to jedi philosophy.

Just pm'd the description.

One more question: where are you in the dark side point giving spectrum?

Roderz
Monday 04-21-2008, 09:18 PM
It's given one once before in another game. The Jedi character argued strongly for leaving slaves captive while they scoped the area while all other characters argued for releasing and escorting them out. I, and they (including the Jedi) decided this warranted a Dark Side point, even though no Power was used, as it was against the code.

Since listening to Order 66 and Rodney's interpretation though, I have a stronger view on them. Any character who uses their powers/abilities etc to make a quick, easy, personal gain, to the detriment of innocents MAY get a point.

For example, as a Jedi, if you need a particular spare part, and the owner wants you to find his daughter in exchange, and you instead Mind Trick him, DSP right there. If as a Scoundrel, you con a few people passing by out of a few credits with a little card game, no DSP, it's in character, but, if the 'mark' was obviously poor, with several hungry children and she tried to make what she thought was easy money but instead gets conned by the scoundrel, DSP. In the poverty example though, I would always explain beforehand.

That give you an idea? It's subjective, but in the case of Jedi, Force power use for personal gain will make me evaluate the situation.

GBVenkman
Monday 04-21-2008, 09:48 PM
Thoughts on force slam? Area of effect that slams everything in an arc on its ground for considerable damage. Useful in combat, for the personal gain of living through a battle.

Would I get a DSP for using it? I've had players use it and it has caused some deaths due to its power. Is a Jedi allowed to use his powers is then heat of combat?

Heat of Combat is much more free, your life, potentially those of your fellows or even innocent bystanders may get injured, so you can easily argue that it's not for personal gain. Saving your own life is not personal gain in my opinion, you're merely trying to maintain your current situation of living.

However, initiating combat using Force Slam could be different depending on the situation.

I'll usually err on the side of no DSP, but you should be aware that I will award them if you go over the top.

sounds fair, thanks!

Ogami is not a malicoius person at all. I'm modeling him after a Zen Master with a light saber.

I'd think sneak attacking a person with the force would be dishonorable to do too. And if it really really needed to be done, then I'd do it and immediately reflect on it to atone (ie spend the force point to git rid of it.)

g'night, got work and school.

Are you clicking the roll icon on the tool bar of the reply or are you cut and pasting what people are posting?

yay

Just click the red die, enter 1d20 etc, then click in between the brackets for the emote.
{ROLL="2d10+4}{/ROLL} this is what it looks like after clicking and entering the rool..

then I enter text like so: {ROLL="2d10+4}yay{/ROLL} (with [] instead).

After a bit of fiddling, and much of the same problems... I had some luck with editing the post and checking the "reroll dice" box that is just below the title field. After I did that for an entry, the dice roller history showed properly and rolled the dice like it should have. May be a quick fix when something goes wrong so that we (erm.... I ;)) don't make a mess of the threads. Go figure.

I hope you don't mind me posting in the IC section out of turn. I might not be able to post today later, so I thought I'd throw in my general action.

Also, whose been hit and who hasn't? I noticed that Jayne has been firing at a gran, Ipsam at a human (who is dropped) and Tolin hit the attacking gran and stunned him a bit.

If tolin wants to finish the lead gran, I'll attack the 2nd gran then; if not, I attack the lead.

edit: One more thing: can everybody post their character name when describing their actions? It can get a bit confusing when trying to follow the action!

I've been using an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of character locations etc, which works ok for this encounter (I think, you guys might feel different), but I think in future you guys will need to be able to see where your characters are?

Saga is my first RPG, and I think that in the past Movement/Range has been less subjective with other systems, even RCR?

I was thinking I could try to post jpgs, but I think that would chew up bandwidth or something.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The tracking positions deal seems tough - I usually take the OOC statements as being pretty helpful when you prod us for our turns. JPGs would work if you have the time, but I imagine that updating them frequently could get pretty old on your part.

My only thing that may help keep things in line a bit comes from my experience GMing and I am not sure how others would feel about this: I have all of the NPCs go on the same initiative, which cleans up how the rounds function. May help with some of the record keeping too, because there will be more of a snapshot of where all of the bad guys are at any given time for us all to use at once and you'd only have to update that once a round.

Building off the OOC discussion regarding the purchase of TOTG...

I was wondering what your opinion is on including/not-including materials as they are published. Obviously we have some time as leveling proceeds, but there are some feats and talents throughout both the Starships and Threats books that could be interesting. Do you just want to check with you on any concepts that would not be from the core book? I am not sure I have anything in mind at the moment, it's more of a "if it comes up" kind of question.

GBVenkman and Toren Utgard are now officially MIA.

Since we're in the middle of an encounter, I'm going to control their actions until they return. If they do not return by the end of the encounter or a few weeks, I'll drop the characters, and possibly add a couple of new players.

In future, if anyone is going to be away for any period of time, let me know. That way I'll know when to expect you back and your character will be here waiting, even if it appears your character has been in a dream because you can't remember any of your actions for a while <--Plot device.

Skill Challenges? Unfortunately, I haven't had time to really delve into 4E - could you describe how they work so that I am prepared should they come up? Thanks.

Skill challenges are non-combat encounters that require all characters in the party to make different successful skill checks that will affect the out come of the encounter.

The example commonly used is the encounter with the duke (or king or whatever) and each PC takes a turn trying to influence the duke in their special way. Like the fighter might try intimidation, the cleric diplomacy, the wizard can drop some knowledge on him etc.

Each skill challege requires a certain number of successful checks vs. Unsuccessful ones. The goal is usually to be in favor of the PCs.

That's the gist of it. I am curious to see how Russ uses it in SW.

I haven't had any major problems - partially also getting used to this format. It's helped to have the map (when possible) and initiative orders floating around in obvious locations.

There's always a part of me that wants to do things faster, but I imagine that's more of a function of the playing environment than your GMing. :)

Inquisitor Tremayne
Wednesday 08-13-2008, 12:15 PM
I concur with everyone else, doing a fine job.

I also agree with rolling our initiatives for us or any other pertinent skill checks, this way it keeps us from slowing down the game.

Also, if possible, during combat, could someone keep marking on the map various people's locations? I know it is a lot of work, um, yeah nevermind. I'll just keep my own map.

Everything is fine so far!

Oh, don't get me wrong - I am right with you - I just figured if I put the suggestion out that I would have to do it, and the nearest scanner that I have would require sneaking in to use it when someone leaves their desk... And that's just not a good way to do it.

It was either that or start Photoshopping, which I was really tempted to do. So yeah, I understand completely. OCD and GMing do not mix. My players here always cause me trouble by giving me odd numbered items and things without appropriate pattern just so that I freeze up and have to fix them.

Roderz
Wednesday 08-13-2008, 04:33 PM
Okay, I can keep a running Initiative order, and post it up.
