If anyone remembers the 1st D&D movie, the Beholder's INT was greatly insulted. So the American Beholder Society of America :) is accepting suggestions from cunning DM's on how to kick the PCs butt if one of their members happen to bump into one of those Grave robber parties.

Thanks for all your help on preserving the Beholder Way of Life

OK so my advice to Beholders the world over is to make sure they realise just how crazy powerful their rays can be.
For example telekinesis is actually really useful: you can hurl a large number of greatswords at a party; you can hurl a party member or minion at someone else; you can disarm that pesky rogue or divine focusing cleric or wand wielding wizard.

Beholders should always make use of their flight ability:
use grease (spell or mundane) on the floor to hamper those pesky heroes.
or just hover over a pit trap and wait for the fighter to move up to you and trigger it. this is especially effective if you pretend to be backed into a corner or floating around the corner of a corridor forcing the PCs to come at you

cheer up beholders you have a wide array of attack options, just remember that you can move in 3D and perform hit and run tactics in a lair that you design and if all goes to hell in a handbasket then just send in the charmed cannon fodder and retreat.

Make use of that Anti-magic field.... thats a Hero killer. Think of the fact that a highly intelligent beholder will choose allies and slaves that complement him well.

For example, advanced Gargoyles. The anti-magic field will disable any weapons that can penetrate a Gargoyle's DR 10/magic.

The beholder can punish any player that attempts to leave the anti-magic cone with its rays while allowing the gargoyles to put on the hurt within the ray.

Use your treasure for a change. Come on tyrant, you have double standard. Stick a couple magic rings on those eyestalks. Use your piles of gold to have some magic items made to better suite your aberrant nature.

Use your feats like shot on the run to its fullest effect. Better yet, optimize like those damn adventurers who will surely come looking for you. Try these...

Agile Tyrant (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Agile_Tyrant,LoM)A creature with this feat develops longer, more flexible eyestalks than its kin. This extra flexibility allows it to bring additional eye rays to bear against its foes.
Disintegration Finesse (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Disintegration_Finesse,LoM)A creature with this feat can use disintegrate effects to affect smaller, more exacting areas.
Disjunction Ray (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Disjunction_Ray,LoM)A beholder with this feat can narrow its antimagic cone down to an eye ray that disjoins magic.
Focused Antimagic (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Focused_Antimagic,LoM)A beholder with this feat can focus the antimagic of its central eye to target a single person or object.
Metaray (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Metaray,LoM)A beholder with this feat can apply the effects of metamagic feats to its eye rays.

height.
Fly up and attack down. This limits combat to missle weapons and spells.

Are these real feats? I don't recall seeing them in any books, of course I don't really use Beholders in my campaigns.

Since we are on the subject of Beholders, in which eye of said Beholders does beauty lie?:p

Those feats are from Lords of Madness. A very good supplement for aberrations like the beholder and the illithid.

I believe beholder beauty is in the brown eye.
