((OOC: No prob, I just wanted to make sure Mursharr could be within range. :-P))

"Stupid hobs," Mursharr mutters as he takes a few steps forward, just to make sure that he is within range to the first hobgoblin. As soon as he is satisfied (70 feet away), Mursharr fires off an arrow at the approaching hobgoblin (#1) and moves to reload his bow.

Attack: (d20=14)+9 = 23 for (1d6=4)+1+(1d6=2) = 7 damage.

Mursharr shakes his head slightly at the stupidity of the hobgoblins as he fires at one of the pair, targeting the one that seemed to get moving more quickly (whichever has the highest init). He starts moving back even as he releases the arrow, moving to where he has some cover and can pick them off for now (N-9) while nocking yet another arrow in his bow.

Barravas slams into the hobgoblin, the force of the charging dwarf taking the creature off of its feet. as it begins to fall, the dwarf slams his axe down on to the things chest with a scream. that scream being the last thing the hobgoblin heard.

The Goblinmage continues running towards the top right corner of the map. as he approuches the area (start zone 2) he tosses something in the air. as it lands on the ground a second portal appears with a loud pop and a flash of fire. from the portal more Goblinoids rush out.

(Sorry all, having problems with the maps, i should have all working fine soon.)

the small gnome bard starts her action, as she performs, Seryl feels liek the heroes of old have blessed her.

Hoping that he might slow it or something, he fires off a shot at the thing even as he backs up to Seryl and Sparkle. The two remaining hobgoblins move to stand behind the goblins.

as the party watches the portal shimmers and dozens of forms begin bursting from the flaming rift. every one can tell the creatures are orcs. their faces look like a strange mix between a mans face and a wild boars. their skin is a gray brown mix, with course hair and short thick tusks. each wears a suit of scalemail and carries a shield with an open hand with a pair of almond shaped eyes, on the center of the palm painted on the center. each of the orcs carries a finely crafted weapon.

a loud voice echoes through the streets. "Impetulent fools, do you think that a meer five of you can stand to face that which is my glory? I Gargath am you death, but do not be afraid, do not be ashamed of falling before me, for in the after life you will be able to tell all that you fell by my hands." the Giants voice carries through the streets like a peal of thunder through the mountains.

Sparkle, this is what you know about Eldritch Giants.

Eldricth Giants are the fallen scions of a might giant empire. they are proud warriors and mighty users of magic. they are greedy and cruel but know that it will take time away from their studies of the arcane, to fight. they love to bargin for knowledge or something of power. Eldritch Giants hate storm giants, who they see as self centered egotistical and fickle. they have never waged a war on their kin due to the amount of time it would take, and the amount of resources it would require. Eldritch Giants love to talk about them selves and their plans because they love to show others how intellegent they are.

This particular giants markings are a Unique, they are like finger prints to those who know the giants. You remember reading about a giant with a scar on his upper arm, that cuts a jagged line through one of the many tattoo runes. as you observe the one before you, you can see that scar. you know his name is Gargath. he seems more vain then many of his kind, and hungers for knowledge more then most. he has been known to parley with adventures for items, or knowledge. and in a few cases a promise of some kind. this last one seems rather like tavern tales, but you know that most tales have a small bit of truth to them.

Mursharr your low light vision isn't picking up much of anything, you assume that it is to dark to see anything with out a form of lighting.

Seryl, you fire your arrow a split second later you hear a tink and the arrow rolls back across the floor and stops near your feet. (you can't see the arrow of course because its so dark, but you feel it bump your foot.)

the weezing sound of the goblins breathing is gone the group realizes after a moment, as are all sounds of the battle. the only sounds you hear are the shifting of feet, and each others breathing.

Mursharr, due to much practice, is able to return the arrow to his quiver and slide his bow over his shoulder even without being able to see. He then reaches to his left, reaching a stick on the edge of his pack. Removing a metal clamp from over the top of it, he exposes an eternal torch that sheds light on their current situation. As he raises the torch, his other hand places the clamp away in a pocket for now.

OOC: Hmm maybe I should put this in the notes or discussion section but it will work here as well. If any one would like to use this roller, I have tested it and it works great. I will be using it as the DM.

Updates? Well, lets see.
* Farcaster flips a coin. *

Looks like it's up and working :)

You may use this tag to roll one or more dice in your post in the format of: Action Description. The roller understands standard dice expression syntax and always operates left to right. You can roll more than one set of dice at a time by using a semi-colon (;). Ex:

Farcaster rolls a bunch of dice for fun

Might produce:

Quote:
Farcaster rolls a bunch of dice for fun: 3d6 (4,6,5 = 15) + 4 = 19
1d100 (63) = 63
2d4 (4,2 = 6) * 1000 = 6000
1d4 (1) * 1d8 (2) = 2
1d10 (8) / 2 = 4
Note there is a hard limit of 1,000 times, 1 million sides, and 10 expressions seperated by semi-colon (;) in any one expression.

Also, you can simply type "Farcaster rolls some dice" for example and the parser will automatically fill in an action for you using your name.. Example:

* Farcaster rolls some dice *

If you edit your post, dice are NOT automatically rerolled even if you add or change the dice expressions. You'll now see a checkbox just below the title "Reroll Dice in Post." To have the dice rolled again, you must put a check in that box.

Mursharrs Tourch flares to life revealing a cavern of sorts with a single exit 50ft. in front of the party, the ceiling is high nearly 40ft up. the walls are roughly hewn and could be easily climbed if need be. around the cavern are the remanants of wonderfully crafted furnature most of which is in ruins now. Cloth tapestries hang along some of the walls depicting ancient battles with creatures that resemble demons.

Sparkle you see nothing of monotary value but you do see a broken chair the legs of the chiar would make a fine handle for a tourch, as well as several old garments and shredded worn wall hangings that could be used to be the fuel for the fire. as a torch would be very easy to make just make a craft roll (even if you don't have any ranks in it.) Torches start to flare up over the room as the companions create make shift torches. (The torch will last the standard time of a torch purchased from a shop.) the light shows the age of the cavern, multiple layers of different colored rock rest on each other. all over the walls on areas not covered by cloth hangings are fossils of creatures. humanoid skeletons seem to have frozen in a place and fossilized in their movements. the forms of those humanoids appeared to be holding weapons of some kind. the appear to be attacking a smaller skeleton the size of a large house dog. after a few moments you note that the skeletion appears to be more feline in nature...some kind of ancient great cat? you note that some of the skulls visable are looking up at something. as your eyes follow the for ever frozen gazes of those now memorialized in this surreal art, you find yourselves gazing on the skeletal remains of a massive creature, its skeletal form resembles the smaller one the humaniods were attacking. A DRAGON! you realize. some how the whole group had been frozen in place and fossilized over time. you all gaze at the walls for moments then realize there is nothing else of intrest (Besides the skeleton on the ledge) in the room.

OOC: Barravas you may take a 20 on the search roll. you notice a small niche about chest level to a dwarf (leading you to suspect that this place was created for or by dwarves. the craftsman ship is a little less then most dwarves would respect but if its as old as you suspect that could explain the poorer work. inside the niche is a small lever. there are none of the tell tale signs of dwarven traps on or near it though. the lever appears to be stuck in its central position. it can be moved up or down.

Sparkle you open the case and find a small note, and a map. as well a a tiny green gem stone the color of clear spring sky.

the letter is written in halfling

"We have stumbled down the corridors trying to hide from it. it seems to be able to tell exactly where we are going. no one has seen it yet, but we hear the noises, smell its breath. Tomar claims he saw the things shadow, a great horned head long fangs and giant bat like wings. we slowly tracked back to where he said he saw the shadow, hopeing to finally see what was hunting us. all we found was a dead lizard. in the torch light its shadow was huge , and looked like what he had descibed. we traveled for all of what we assume was the night, finding a small pond. its tiny inhabitants, little fish that glowed like stars in the night sky. Destin tried to grab one, for food or fun, I can't remember, the things swarmed his hand, biting and thrashing. it took several of Kairns spells to heal his hand enough for him to use it again.

Nessin, says he remembers tales his master used to tell him of a deamon that lived in this area many years ago. the tale says that a party of adventurers killed the creature, but they themselves were never seen again, but neither was the deamon.

Nessin says that knowing the creatures true name would allow us to banish it or control it. we have used most of our gems and resources preparing for a spell that will allow Kairn and Nessin to ask the gods for this knowledge. they must be very specific in their wording or something could go wrong.

after a few hours they said they had discovered teh name of the one who lived here. the name was Coudan'rothci. Nessin said he remembered that name from somewhere but was to exhausted to think further.

******************************

Its been several days and Kairn and Nessin have yet to awaken, they both stir in their sleep, as if hunted as we are now. we have had to carry them to aviod staying in the same place for to long. we are being picked apart one at a time.

Tomar was the first to go, the ground he stood on falling under him, we never heard him hit the ground. it seems to go on forever.

Destin and Nessin were next, we set camp and awoke to find both gone. we never heard it come for them, just found scrapes of clothing, and Nessins staff broken.

***************************
Kairn stopped breathing today, Hadin and I buried him in a Kairn of his own, the irony didn't sit well with us.

The Note stops here.

The map looks like a maze of tunnels.

Mursharr your roll paid off. you have heard of a powerful necromancer once summoned a deamon of a very similar name, (could have been changed in translation when told to you by the druids of your home.) the necromancer was called Hestor Drollsmark, though he was called many things. the deamon promised Hestor greater power in return for its freedom. a deamon of great power a Balor if the druids assumed correctly. the deamon promised (a promise full of loop holes.) that it would never attack the Necromancer once free. the necromancer released the deamon prince and was given many books of power as well as many powerful artifacts for his reward. the deamon left the necromancers domain and raised an army of its own and layed seige to the lands of Dunsmoor. the Human and Dwarven allies fought a great battle against the deamon, niehter side claiming victory. that is all you can recall at the moment.

As you come down the stairs you can see that there is quite a bit of light coming from the room. The floor of the room is littered with debris and dust, but the most interesting feature is that several rocks around the size of a fist are burning. The flames are small and non-threatening, but very curious. The flaming rocks are scattered throughout the room, with one pretty close to the doorway.

Near the far end of the room is something that looks like a mild campfire at first, but on second glance (and a DC10 spot check) you notice that it is actually a pile of rocks, each with the strange flames leaping from them. Just as you notice this odd feature a sudden movement from a niche nearby catches your eye, as a large round rock rolls towards and hits the pile of burning rocks, making a familiar grinding noise (pretty loud now that you are down here). The rock hits the pile of rocks, scattering them about in a fascinating display of fire, but each rock continues to burn undisturbed as it lands.

From the niche that the rock rolled from, a sound of metallic laughter is heard. A figure steps out, covered in a red robe trimmed in gold. The arms and legs of the figure appear to be encased in armor, shining like mithril in the light. The figure appears to be male in build, tall and imposing, and his movements are graceful. His head is in the shadow of his hood, so his race cannot be determined.

The strange figure doubles in laughter for just a moment before he starts to grab some of the burning rocks scattered by the big rock, apparently unhurt by the flames. He then begins to rebuild the pile of rocks, completely oblivious to you.

It takes a moment before the robed figure looks up from his work, piling the rocks back in the shape of a pyramid, seemingly oblivious. At the tail end of Musharr's speech, he finally looks up, startled. He recovers quickly.

"Ahhhh, the demon comes," he speaks in an unconcerned voice as he looks over Musharr. "I have seen no other in this cavern, so you must be him." He then looks puzzled for a moment. "I would have expected you to be more reptilian, but who am I to judge?"

He lets go of one of the rocks, stands, and removes his hood. Just like his arms and legs, his head is metallic in appearance, with veins of mithril gleaming in the firelight. His noseless face is stern and daunting, with (almost literally) a steely jaw and eyes glowing blue in recesses above his mouth.

"The fire you see is harmless, from a continual flame spell I have been practicing. The energy I will produce to combat you, if you seek to further evil, will be much less harmless." He crouches, not directly threatening, but definitely ready to act if needed.

"Metal man ask Mursharr companions if no believe Mursharr words."

Mursharr does spare another glance at the burning rocks though, and pulls his torch ((everburning torch)) off the side of his pack. He removes the cap on it, allowing the eternal torch to cast its light on the area. "Rocks like Mursharr torch?"

He speaks, almost to himself "I suppose an evil fire-using creature wouldn't have so many creatures of flesh about it uneaten." He first turns to Sparkle and nods his head in greeting. Then to Mursharr, he speaks in an excited way, "Yes, these rocks are much like your torch. An everburning flame without heat, but much smaller. I create them with the dust of some red shiny rocks I found that I crushed for spellcasting materials."

He picks up a small burning rock near his feat and tosses it underhand toward Mursharr. The flame makes an arc of light through the air, but the flame is still undisturbed.

"So what brings you flesh-people to these tunnels? Not much in these caverns other than claw and scorch marks."

The construct replies to Barravas, "Well, the rumors I heard stated there was a creature of great power within these caves, so I came to see for myself. I have been here for, ohhh, I don't know, 2 weeks? Time is a concept you fleshies seem obsessed with. I have seen some interesting claw marks and scorch marks." He reaches to a belt pouch around his waist and pulls out what looks like a stack of papers bound together, and a couple heavy scales.

"I found these scales, and I found some markings in what I guess is Celestial on one of the walls, not not the creature itself." As he flips through his notebook, you notice has several pages full of notes, all written in very neat handwriting. He then pulls a loose page out. "I have studied several languages, but unfortunately Celestial is not one of those. Can any of you read celestial?" He holds the scales and page out for anyone who wishes to examine them.

the Scale is large, obivously from a vast creature. there are signs of aging such as chipping and cracking. the color of the scale can't be seen through the thick layer of carbon left from a serious burn.

you can't tell if the scale is from a Dragon, a giant lizard, or even a large fish like creature, it could also be from the demonic creature that you have heard about, said to be infesting the caverns the party is in.

Mursharr you reach the passage way and you see that it forks in two directions. one passage curls left and goes deeper into the caverns. the other passage makes a sharp turn right and starts to sloop upwards.

(I rolled a listen check for you and you rolled a nat. 20 (Kodo's to you.) you hear a sound that is distinctly sing-song in nature like wind running through chimes. a quite melody drifts down the passage. the song is quite but sad like a funneral lamentation. the song is to quite for the others to hear, and you yourself cannot tell how far away the orgin of the music is. the voice of the music is decidedly masculine in nature. the song flows to your ears.

I long to see the light of day.
but no light can reach me here.
swallowed by my jealosy.
grounded by the fear.

I long for all the yesterdays.
but pain it haunts the past.
I hide all my sorrow behind a stolen mask.

And I am highly curious as to what one who can write in celestial would have to say before continuing on. My understanding is that it is a very rare language."

Mursharr you follow the sounds of the song down the left passage, the song gets louder as the closer farther you go down the passage. 200ft. down the passage a small light glows out of a doorway. the light reveals just how massive the tunnel you have been traveling is. the walls are nearly 80ft. apart and the ceiling is in your estimation nearly 100ft. above you. the doorway is massive. two giant wooden doors edged in gold are blocking most of the doorway. there is just enough room for a large man to fit in through. Everybody has started down the tunnels. Barravas is the closest behind Mursharr.

Mursharr you here a series of thumping noises. they come behind you. as you move your torch around you see a series of small alcoves. the noise is coming from one of the 4 passages.

NOW to clerify the area.

the room with the glowing stones is 100ft. above Mursharrs head. the passage that the party took was 45ft. straight down the room. the tunnel from that room lead to another series of tunnels that split. one went up, another went deeper into the cavern. the party opted to go deeper into the caverns and took the left tunnel. the tunnel turned left and curled downwards roughly 200ft. the passage opened up into a large tunnel. the tunnels walls are 80ft. apart and the ceiling is 100ft. high. at the end of the huge tunnel (60ft. away) are a pair of huge doors leading into a massive room. a man and a fountain occupy the room. on the left side of the large passage halfway between the entrance to the large tunnel and the double doors are a series of 4 passages, small and hidden in the shadows. only the thumping noise gave hint of the hidden passages.

with a loud click the old lock pops open. the door opens with a gentle nudge making no noise as if the hinges were well oiled.

in front of the group is a shimmering wall that reaches from floor to ceiling. its 10ft. back from the wall that hold the door way giving the party plenty of room to move around and search the area.

the large figure that calls itself Rok can be seen through the shimmering wall but the image is still distorted.

It looks like wild hair or something in-distinct is covered all over his body. Massive horns extend out from the top of his head or shall we say form because he easily looks to be the size of small Dwarvish siege engine or at least a good size warhorse"
A deep husky voice says to you, "Greetings friends, I am Gar'rok Ironjaw of the Cragshear mountain tribes. But most individuals just call me Rok. I am pleased to meet..(starts to count all the blurry forms that he can make out)
I am pleased to meet all of you. I see you have brought many friends. That is good! Now if you would be so kind.. as to get me out of this curse'd contraption, I would be most appreciative."

you recognize the wall as a spell. the spell is known as WALL OF FORCE. you also know that it can be made permanant with certain spells. and has been known be be used to create barriers to treasure troves, hidden areas, safe houses and the like.

if there was a door leading to this wall you all can assume that there must be a way to remove the wall.

Spellcraft

"My creator spoke of Walls of Force during our studies together. What is hidden behind a Wall of Force should often not be released, said he. Rok, what manner of creature are you? And where is this collapsed tunnel you spoke of?"

Crowblaze appears to be more curious then suspicious.

Barravas looks at this wall with his battle ax at the ready simply saying " I don't like this.... Anybody who needs to be kept locked behind walls of magic must have a reason for for it, how do we know when and if we bring down the wall he won't attack us or lead us into a trap or ambush of some sort ? Spellcraft checks answer. you know that the wall cannot be dispelled through conventional magic. a disentigrate spell will destroy the wall as will several other higher level spells but anything the group has would not remove the wall.

Mursharr you see a series of levers. 3 levers in a row. you have a feeling that if moved they might remove the wall.

Currently all levers are in their halfway position.

At Rok's answer, Crowblaze's curiosity seems satisfied. He looks around the room, noticing that Mursharr found some levers. He moves over there, setting his longspear on the ground, readjusting his buckler, and removing his hood. He stays out of Mursharr's way, but looks at the levers, trying to determine if one or more have less dust on them, or that the grooves above and below the levers give any indication that they have been used more than the others.

You note that the dust levels are about the same. the only difference is the first lever seems to have been moved to the up position several times (thicker wear groves provide this indication)

you also note that a brick about 5' above the ground seems a little loose.

"Let me tell you of tribal society. Maybe it help you understand us, and Rok more. Not all ogre tribes are the same. Some are more chaotic and war mongering, while others are peaceful and very spiritual. For instance my tribe has many shamans and warriors and healers and gatherers. Some tribes have only warriors. All tribes are different, but all tribes serve current Warchieftan. We do so in order to band together and protect us. We have a saying "One set of hands can work and move across the mountain, many sets of hands can move the mountain itself!". Cragshear mountain tribes are weak if spilntered. But together we are strong. We try to defend our home, but some tribesman want to branch out. Become stronger and bigger.

Tribes are made of many families. Each family sends an elder (usualy male) to the the tribal council meetingwhere a tribal leader is selected. The tribal leader then attends the Mountain tribal council made up of all tribes in the Cragshear Mountains plus the current Warchieftan. There they make important
