Welcome to the Pen & Paper Games website! Pen and Paper Games is a brand new site. (Mmm.. It even has that new site smell. Nothing like it! But I digress...) I'm pleased to announce that the first community to join us is the Dallas Roleplayers Group!

So, what is this new site about? Well, we have a couple of goals for this community.

First, we want to make it easier for players of all types of table-top roleplaying games to connect and find games in their area. Every member of this community is added to a searchable database, unless, of course, they opt out. You can search this registry on a number of different criteria, including: proximity to your zipcode (up to a 50 mile radius), preference of GMing or Playing, favorite genres, when they can play and more. It is fast and easy to use, give it a test drive. (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/memberlist.php) For those of you who were migrated from dfwrpg.com, you'll need to take a moment and go to your profile page to update your personal registry options (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/profile.php?do=editprofile) before other players will be able to find you.

Next at the top of our list is for this site to be a common gathering place for gamers to find news and product release information from your favorite gaming publishers. When you visit the forums, you'll probably quickly notice that the PnP News Bot has already been hard at work even before this site officially opens. The PnP News Bot scans about 8 different news feeds at this point looking for news that might interest you, and his repertoire is sure to grow as time goes on. You can find news postings mixed in with other community discussion in each of the "Gaming News & Discussion" forums (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/../forums). You'll also find at the top of the forums new product alerts whenever one of the major publishers is about to release a new gaming resource, and a calendar of scheduled releases (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/calendar.php?c=3).

And, also most importantly, we want to create a community portal for resources and gaming discussion. The forums have been laid out into three categories:

You will find Local Meet Up Groups, which are smaller communities hosted here on this site. The DFW Roleplayers are the first community to join, and have the pleasure of helping us alpha test the site.
Then there is the Gaming News & Discussion category which has a forums for each of the roleplaying genres. Some of the most popular gaming systems of each genre have their own sub-forums, but each genre also has a General Discussion forum for topics that cross gaming platforms. If there is a gaming system you think should be added, by the way, feel free to drop a note in the Suggestion Box (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4).
The Player Portal section is the site's general lobby. The General Chatter forum is open for any discussion, gaming related or not. Just keep it clean, kay? While you're there, stop in and introduce yourself in the Introductions forum. This section is also where you can post invitations to games you're running. You should definitely update your profile if you are looking for players, because that is the easiest way for players to find you, but if you have a specific campaign introduction that you'd like to post to attract gamers, feel free to post it.
Well, that is the gist of what this site is about. At the bottom of the forums, there is a suggestion box. Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions to make this site better. You guys are the first players to step through the gates, so you have a chance to impact how this site will develop right from the start. Good, bad or indifferent, I want to hear from you.

Again, welcome to the Dallas Roleplayers Group! If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) or your group organizer, Ron Pyatt (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=9).
