View Full Version : So what monstrous evil should I pit against my players next?

Hi everyone!

Well as some of you know, I have a newly formed gaming group here in town, and they're going up against a Shuten Doji (a kind of Japanese warrior vampire). Currently, one of them has been captured and is tied up in the parlor waiting to be the dinner meal for our undead Mr. Tanaki.

Nonetheless, I'm somewhat sure the group will devise some nefarious means of rescuing their kidnapped comrade and perform their murderous intent upon the poor lost Mr. Tanaki.

So, I need some new evil to perpetrate on the characters.
Thus, I'm taking a poll on what kind of scourge should be wand'ring Richmond's meaner streets next.

If you have an idea that I haven't presented, please offer it up!

Send them to an alternate dimension where undead keep re-fighting the War of Northern Aggression. But add a twist, the undead minions are controlled by two evil wizards and they are fighting each other for some reason unknown to the characters. The characters must complete some task before they can escape that dimension.

Gnomes.

I only half jest. Give them something expected, but make it unexpected. The innocent surprise.

Well, I want at least the first couple sessions to have a sort of standard "monster hunter" feel to it.

I'm intrigued by your idea though. Gnomes in this game are a type of elemental. In D&D terms, they'd be the Earth Elemental. Mythological gnomes took on more varied forms though, and some were more malevolent, closer to goblins, kallinkantzari or kobolds.

Hrm, that's a thought.

How about a "dark stranger" who has a job offer which he is willing to pay them well for. Which involves the the party going to a remote location surrounded by miles of forests where infact (unknown to the characters)there is a hunting party there waiting for them that plans on hunting them like animals and all the characters are armed with is a knife and no armor... that could prove interesting though I didn't see that as an option up above lol

How about a "dark stranger" ...

Yeah, I'm thinking that at least one of them has read that book, too. :D

So, there's a 4 way tie.

Now, I really don't know what to do.

Now that I think about it the Serial killer insane True Immortal has alot of potential...

Hey 'Crime Lords' are always worth while. But having a vamp pose as a crime lord always comes as a surprize.

Oh sure, he's not a big name Mafia don, but his family has been running a major criminal conspiracy in the city for more than 100 years with him behind the scenes pulling strings. Illegal gambling, drugs & gun running mostly.

Wouldn't suprise me really... I read a book series where one of the "Masters of the city" (head vamp) who was master of chicago also had his hand in the mob and the Giovanni from VtM tend to have their hand in most mob work...

The crime lord's vampiric existence isn't intended so much to be the surprise to the players as the stuff going on behind the stage will be.

I like ghosts, like I like my ladies....the angrier the better....no wait...did I type that out-loud?

I am in favor of the ghost angle...I like it when random violence comes back to haunt characters.

So of the ideas presented, so far I only have two written up and neither one is the 5th option on the poll. I think I'm going to put the demon happy sorcerer on hold for a while.

Hopefully in the next couple weeks, I'll get the opportunity to post a brief summary of the 1st two game sessions, the outline I wrote for the first game session, and the NPC's in my blog (http://www.penandpapergames.com/userpages/browsecategory.php?do=member&entryuserid=610) here.

Also, if people are interested, you can read game log (http://www.usslynx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39) of the IRC WitchCraft, I'm doing on Magicstar Network. Since they are set in the same city at different points in the same year, 2004, events in one may have influence on events in the other.
