View Full Version : Feng Shui text chat using Maptools, "Wings Over Rokkasho"

The snow started falling at sunset on the longest night of the year. By half-past four, the sky was pitch-dark and traffic out of Morioka was already a mess even though nothing was sticking yet. The trains were still in service, but there's no rail station north of Lake Ogawara these days.

So it was by car, driving up the Touhoku and then the Hachinohe Expressways, with visibility provided by endless rows of red brake lights. By a quarter to eight, it became a full-on snowstorm while crossing over to Route 338 just south of Oirase. Only a few more kilometers to Misawa and then to Rokkasho, but not many vehicles left on the road by then, merely ruts in the ice and skid marks for the most part.

The highway ran right by the coast. There might have been a sandy beach or rocky cliffs just outside the driver's side windows, but it didn't matter. There was nothing to see on this night.

Denbu Yuuzou had better be in Rokkasho at this rate. Sliding off the road into the ocean would be, as the 2ch'ers are wont to say, a "bad end," but doing it for a fool's errand would be too heavy a burden going into the afterlife. Yanagi said that Denbu, his old teacher, needed to be found because if somebody could divine why evil spirits from the netherworld were cropping up all over the place, it would be him. Yanagi's words tended to be taken seriously by anyone who had come face-to-face with some of those evil spirits during the Bon Season, a year ago last summer.

Wings Over Rokkasho is a contemporary fantasy adventure conducted using the Feng Shui rules system with some house rules and a different setting from the original material. The player characters are following up on a lead about a hard-to-find sorcerer that places him in Aomori, Japan. The game will be conducted as a live, text-based chat, using version 1.3.b86 of the Maptool system on alternating Saturdays, starting on Saturday, December 20th. We will meet in the Pen and Paper Games chat room by 4:00 pm PST with game-play to start no later than 4:30 pm. To play in the first session, your character needs to be completed ahead of time, but you are still welcome to play in subsequent sessions if that's not the case. If you are interested in playing, please contact me through this site's private mail.
